Yesterday I got my first reusable shopping bag (in America, anyway, I used these in France all the time). Like Lelly, I've been wondering if I can really remember to stash them back in my car for the next use -- maybe it won't be as hard to develop the habit as I thought.It's embarrassing to realize how little I have done to reduce, recycle, etc. I've switched to buying the energy-conserving light bulbs (thank you, Costco!). I don't like the fluorescent light as well, but they do use 75% less energy, and another benefit is that you hardly ever have to change them! So far we have only been recycling cans, we could do so much more. I'm inspired by Lelly making her own recycling bins, so cool!

Lelly, maybe because a lot of stores there don't provide bags? Also because I didn't have a car so I was just in the habit of stashing my bags in the apartment and then grabbing them when I went out... kinda dumb, huh?
I love having my bags in the car - it is the ONLY way that I will remember when I walk in...although I have had to walk out many times and grab my stash while the checker is ringing me up because I forgot to bring them into the store. I love that most stores now offer this option - with an incentive of like 10cents or so off for each bag. Not much, but it feels good.

Where did you get that one? I LOVE the color. I am all over the re-usable bags too. I was thinking of making some, but when you can find good ones for $1 each, it kind of makes me less likely to go and buy fabric...

In a way, it seems that living elsewhere (like France) would make conserving energy easier. Especially in terms of being close enough to walk places. After living there for a while I felt so wasteful (in many ways) coming back to our way of life.
I've thought that myself...whether or not I would remember to put them back in my car. It's so like me. Either way though, I ought to try.

I feel the same way about those light bulbs. Though my reason for liking them isn't noble at all but rather laziness in not having to change them so often.
Ooh! I like your bags! So cute! Cloth bags are something that I've been thinking about for a while--I always thing I'll make some, and then never get around to it. I should just break down and buy some.
Does Orem do curbside recycling? I was surprised when we moved to Lehi and they offered it, though the things that can be recycled are limited. I keep a bin by the garage door that I throw my recycling into. It's my little contribution.

The west has always been lagging behing the East in the recycling department!! We have mandatory recycling of many things. I think this would be an excellent time for you to recount the recyling world on Nantucket Island!!! Rememeber how rigid that was!
The entire theme of the Princeton House this year is "green", including our Boutique. It was easy and creative to find all things that fit in to this theme to sell. Your books are fab!! (I had to buy two of them.....)
Most all Princetonians carry their own recylable shopping bags! It's the cool thing to do.

I actually hang my by my back door. I also leave some in my car just in case I go shopping. The other option- have them load everything back in your cart instead of bags and put it in your trunk- ala Costco/Sams.
If I forget my big bag, I have actually gotten to the point that I just walk out of a store without a bag and the items in my hand (I always have the receipt visible). I love it, because no more ridiculous bags everywhere.
I must confess that I am a bagaholic....I love bags, and I love plastic, paper, all kinds, and the more i have the more i want more! crazy! I dont' think I could be a one bag lady!
