On Thursday, both of the boys told me they wanted to have a stay-home day. No one understands that desire more than I do. I went out to do some yardwork, as it was finally a nice day! Eva came out to play, but then she saw two flies and lost it. She actually had to go inside the house! I swear, if that girl doesn't overcome her extreme fears soon, we are going to have a very difficult summer...
Pokémon card battles: one of the things keeping Max and Lucas busy. I enjoy seeing them actually using all those cards they've collected over the years!
Around noon, some friends called and invited Max & Lucas to go to Jump On It, which is apparently some sort of trampoline extravaganza -- suddenly, they were keen to get dressed and go out!
Eva got a stationery kit in a Wendy's kids' meal and has been thoroughly intrigued with it. She drew a picture on one of the cards and put in an envelope, which she decorated as well. She insisted I ready it to send to Bella pronto. And thus her first good mail was born.
When they got home, we had dinner and watched Planet Earth.
Yesterday, Jill, Landon & Whitney all came over for Creative Friday. My kids literally could not wait for them to arrive.
Whitney was kind enough to indulge Eva with some imaginary play, pretty much her favorite thing to do, period. We kept hearing Eva exclaim "Daddy!", prompting us to wonder if Marc had come home early. The kids were all so good about letting Eva hone in on their play, I think it was the best day of her life.
Stefanie was in town for work and she came to join us as well. It's always fun to meet a fellow blogger -- I just love the friendship shortcut -- I'm never my normal shy self, and feel like we already know each other, so there's none of the awkwardness and it's right to comfortable conversation.
She brought me this adorable M! I love monograms in all forms, so pleasing. And she brought us a big box of delicious cookies. Gee, do you think she knows what I like?
Stefanie had all kinds of good stuff going on and made quite a few cute cards.
Jill framed her cutest ever mailbox card and wrote quite a few cards of her own. Not surprisingly, I didn't get a whole lot done, but I did start cutting some of the fabrics I bought at Britex to make a birthday banner.
Last night, more Planet Earth. If you haven't seen the series, it is quite fascinating. This week we watched the episodes about caves and deserts. Next up: ice worlds.
Today Marc suggested we work on our photo wall. Woohoo! I've been wanting to do that for over a year now, and apparently today was the day to get started.
He suggested we follow Martha's lead and cut out papers to match the sizes of our frames. We arranged those on the wall, as they were easy to shuffle around. We started hanging frames, but it ended up being more time-consuming than we bargained for -- to be continued. The next step will be deciding which photos we want to put in the frames! It's a very happy project.
At one point today I found Max out on the deck, painting. We are all just so happy that spring is here (even if snow is in the forecast again).
I think going to Cold Stone was the last remaining thing on our Spring break list, so we had to go there this evening. Lucas chose cotton candy ice cream (!), which surprisingly was not nearly as bad as it sounds. I had dark chocolate peppermint, which was a taste sensation. However, we both decided that a medium is way too big for us. We swore that next time we will both get a small, and we shook on it. We also discovered that even a child's size is way too big for Eva.
And to finish out Spring break, my favorite thing of all: fresh haircuts, yay! They couldn't sit still long enough for me to get a decent picture, but... fresh haircuts, yay! There's not much I love more than that.

Well! After catching up on the last couple of days (WAY crazy schedule installing the Penthouse project AND the Princeton Designer House...) I have decided that I don't know anyone who could have had a more fabulous spring break than your children!! I'm sure Eva will be soooooooooooooo sad next week! And,you too I'm sure!!
Those memoried will be treasured! We never did anything like that!! I totally enjoyed the daily accounts. Can't wait to see the photo wall! I've never tried the Martha plan (for many things......) but it looks cute for sure! I lay everything out on the floor and make a few key measurements with Dad close at hand for the install!! High, low and everything in between! I'll be looking forward to the finished product.
Love all the darling photos of the kids! Those polka dots on Eva are cute! Cute, cute, cute, very cute, so cute, CUTE!!!
Goodnight!
But wait, I never knew that there were magnolia trees in Provo!! A bit of home.
When my oldest was about 3 or 4, she was petrified of bugs - or as she called them - "bugooes". One day we were driving and a fly got in the car. I seriously thought a bee had gotten in and was stinging her, for all of the ruckus she was making. The ladies in our ward always got together at a local park once a week and we had to stop going because Emily's "terror tantrums" over the bugs were so bad! She finally outgrew this, but it took at least a year. Good luck Eva!
yay for fresh haircuts! we got one of those around here too. what a difference.
sounds like another great week. what fun to meet stefanie and have her join you and jill in your creativeness.
i LOVE the idea of cutting out paper to put your photo wall together. thank you so much for sharing that. i struggle so much to hang things because i'm nervous about getting it right as well as committing to it all. i can really get behind this idea!
Oh michelle sounds like a delightful day, specially having whitney there to entertain and enjoy eva! I love the idea of the frame wall, who would have thought? i am learning so many things through blogging, the only thing i don't have left at home are walls...they are pretty much all covered, wish I had more, since i love art.! That picture of the three of you is very nice, and Stephany seems like a wonderful girl, I don't think I have ever visited her blog...maybe once? I will have to check again!
I'm so excited that you guys started working on your photo wall! This has been such a long time coming, I feel like doing a happy dance.
Hooray for new haircuts for the boys!
Like your mom, I've really enjoyed your spring break account, Michelle. REALLY enjoyed it. I love the details (like Cold Stone choices and sizes the picture frame wall) the pictures, seeing the boys play...it's just all so inviting and fun. Thanks for taking the time to post.
Luci and Griffin ask for stay at home days too sometimes but by 9 am they are begging to go somewhere.
I hope you show your finished photo wall!
I can not wait to see your finished photo wall!
Love staying home! Those are the best days.
Happy Spring Break!
I have also loved your post this last week- really great.
I have done the photo wall- that's the best way to hang pictures without having to make 100 extra holes in the wall.
last summer we had a similar flying bug issue. I really hope that doesn't happen again.
Whitney is sweet to play with Eva- I bet she was in heaven!
Lucky STephanie!
It seems like our 2-week (yikes!) Spring Break was over ages ago-we are so early. We made a list this year too and it made the days so much fun. I love your photo wall plan. We had one in our Ohio house and I miss it so. There is now better art in my opinion. The wall even became a nightly ritual for all of us to look closely at our favorite photos and the boys would ask me questions about the place or timeframe. I may need to find a place for one again in our smaller CA home.
I'm a little stunned that your husband suggested working on a home decor project. Stunned and envious, actually.
I am intrigued with Stefanie's woven looking square on the front of her card, and not surprised that she created something so amazing.
We have a marble slab icecream store nearby that we have only tried once because $$$ and more $$$ but we are going to go there to celebrate the end of horse riding lessons for the year. I'll remember your commitment to smaller sizes.
Creative Friday was fabulous. Thank you so much for letting me join in the fun. It's been a while since I've had dedicated crafting time and it was great to get to sit and chat with you and Jill.
I can't wait to see your completed photo wall. Rich and I want to do something similar to that in our hallway.
I confess to being covetous of your Spring Break. It sounds like you had a fabulous time, and haircuts are the best!
That little Eva is just a doll and those boys of yours are so handsome. What a good looking family you have.
The idea of working with paper the size of your frames is genius! I will definitely copycat you there. I love your "friendship shortcut" term. Truly, truly!
the boys give me great hope about all of the trading cards jack has been amassing...
i love to see a *martha* plan in action!! can't wait to see the finished project. definitely happy, indeed.
as for ice cream and i... after about four spoonfulls, i've usually had my fill. (i need to listen to kristi's advice, and find someone to split with when we go out for it!)
what an amazing spring break, michelle. seriously so much goodness.
i LOVE that Stefanie came for Creative Friday. WOW-- lucky Stefanie!! :)
And dark chocolate peppermint ice cream? oh my-- so glad we don't have a coldstone (too) near us.
yum!
ps- doesn't the martha hint help so much? i kick myself for not ALWAYS using that method. :)
can't wait to see your finished project wall
hi michelle, it's been so fun catching up on your blog, i love that you had a list for spring break, i definitely need to adopt that next year. it always seems to go by too fast!
i was going to share a tip about the martha stewart wall of paper frames. maybe you already know this, i couldn't tell from the photo. i have used this trick MANY times because i'm so photograph obsessed - it always works wonders!
one thing we did that was super helpful was to actually poke a hole in the paper where the nail is going to go. (after it's cut out, hold it up to the back of the frame) then when you have the paper hanging right where you want it, you just hammer the nail where the hole is, take your paper down and hang the picture. voila! it's fantastic!
good luck, the wall already looks great! email me if this doesn't make any sense!
It sounds like you had a great spring break! We just had our spring break too, and I felt like it was nice and relaxing.
Your thank you card arrived today and is so pretty I could frame it!
Oh, and Luci and I went to Cold Stone today (after the dentist, of all places!). I had a small cake batter with heath bar in it and it was heaven on earth! It killed me to pay $11 for 2 small scoops and one bottled water though. That will be a very rare treat, for sure.
You've had a wonderful week, I think! Love the picture of your cute boys.
I can't believe you got to have a Creative Friday with Stefanie, too! I'm also intrigued by her woven card.
What a great spring break- and great creative friday! I'm impressed that anyone got anything done. I would just talk the whole time!
I've always been intrigued with that idea of placing pictures on the wall...never used it though. I assume you already have frames then?
I love that idea from Martha for the photos on the wall. I have done that a few times and it's the best system. No more rehanging photos and too many holes in the wall. Please post the finished project so we can see your great photos.
BTW, I got your message and will have Jared give you a call. He's been working in your area lately so I am sure he can stop by and have a look.
Cute creative children. Mmmmmm cold stone, I love their all chocolate concoction.
It sounds like spring break was a success! I always loved spring break growing up and I loved being able to spend time and do stuff with my mom. Way to go for making spring break awesome!
