tips on San Francisco?

So... tomorrow Marc and I are headed to San Francisco! We leave even before the crack of dawn. Marc will be presenting at a conference, I will have some time to explore by myself. I have never been to SF but have been longing to see it for years. Amy H. gave me a guide to some of her favorite places, and I was wondering if anyone else had tips for me on restaurants, shopping, etc. I'm hoping to take a lot of photos, eat some good food, and just enjoy not being the mother for 3 1/2 days. Yippee!

Oh, oh...how fun. I love San Fran, but I haven't been there in so long, I'm not much help. Just have fun....and ride a trolley.

Oh, I am so excited for you. SF is a fun place to shop and EAT. I remember lots of great food there. Fresh bread, great delis, and yummy desserts. Only three days?! Luckily, it feels much longer when you don't have kids with you. Have a great time :-)

The place that I am dying to go to in SF is Bell'occhio {bellocchio.com}. Also Kari'kter {karikter.com}.

Oh I love SAn Fransisco!
You have to go to Gheradelli square for sure & get some chocolate- they give out samples when you walk in the door- it's really fun. Also my favorite place to eat is www.boudinbakery.com.
Great soup & sandwiches on amazing bread. The desserts are fabulous too. They are all over the city.
I am so jealous. The warf is also fun & lombard street. It's fun to walk & drive down. I love that city!!

This is where I grew up (well, just outside). My recommendations are to do the tourist things because they are tourist things for a reason. Now, I've never been to Alcatraz, so I don't recommend it, but the Warf, and Pier 39, Golden Gate Bridge, Golden Gate Park, the Japanese Tea Gardens, Lombard Street, and Coit Tower. I know they are the "cheezy things to do", but they are fun.

If you want to go somewhere nice for dinner, The Cliff House is excellent for the food and the view.

If you are planning on getting out of the city at all, I have lots of other recommendations, namely a little dive ice-cream parlor in Oakland called Fenton's Creamery. Like I said, a dive, but fabulous!

Other than that, there are all kinds of delicious little places to eat. If you want some good crepes, I love Ti Couz. For delicious bread and clam chowder, SF style, Boudin is fantastic (pronounced Bo-deen...sad, but true), and they have them all over.

Shopping...Union Square is great.

Okay, that should get you started. Any other questions, you can always email me!

Oh, yes, and Ghirardelli Square. How did I forget that?

And then there are the famous Victorian houses that they show at the beginning of Full House. Unfortunately, I can find them when I'm driving, but have no idea where they are or what they're called. But here's a site for a Victorian home walking tour.

Sorry...I'm bombarding you. And the Williams-Sonoma Flagship store is there, too. Amazing!!! Three or four floors.

please don't miss going to Britex fabrics. 4 floors of wonderful goodness. the top floor is buttons, ribbons and doo dads. buy a t-shirt too. and they have free postcards at the front desk you can send to friends.and trust me they are cooler than any postcard in the city.
it is walking distance from union square. you will love it.

it is my dream to be able to sew the girl's wedding dresses and fly to SF and go to britex fabrics and buy the fabric.

My tips are to have a great time, take tons of pictures, and do whatever you want to do even if that's staying in the hotel room reading and taking a nap!

Oh wow. Time completely alone in a different city? I would probably start by shoping in the little funky shops that children don't do well in.

Have fun!

Oh, and you'll do great in laurels!

Go to Chinatown, take a cable car, buy some Ghiradelli chocolate, Pier 39 to see the sea lions, eat some fresh sourdough bread.
