spt -- Extra, Extra!

I really struggled with this spt challenge. I just could not think of anything extra-special about myself. Certainly not physically. So I tried to think of my skills and talents:

I used to speak French fairly well.
I can sing fairly well.
I like to cook (bake, especially).
I play piano some.

None of these were feeling extra-special.

Then I read Jill's and Kristi's posts. Eureka!

Now I know what's extra-special about me, and I can hardly believe I'm saying this: it's what I call my beige personality. When I had my aura read (not that I particularly believe in that), I was told I was tan with a tan overlay. In personality tests, I am always white, tan, beige, or whatever is most neutral.

I'm very laid-back, calm, and relaxed (most of the time, not all of the time!). I have an easy time getting along with most people. I think I'm a good listener. I used to think I was just plain boring, but Jenn helped me to realize that there is a positive spin on this -- she calls it serenity. Needless to say, I like her interpretation better, and when I caught the vision of what she was saying, it seriously rocked my world. Now I'm learning to embrace my beige self. Beige can be beautiful, baby!

beige IS beautiful! I'm so glad you are catching the vision. When we talked about the paragraph from eat, pray, love that said we can improve but ultimately have to be who we are, I was quite depressed because I SO want to be like you- extra special!

did I mention what a seriously awesome self-portrait that is! it oozes serenity!

This is such a pretty self-portrait, you and Jessie both have serious SP skills!

I think beige is definitely beautiful! I'm sure your tan with a tan overlay (that's funny) has helped you get along so well in your life and helped you to be able to take things like Smotherhood in stride. I don't know what color personality I am, but I feel like I'm all over the place most of the time and that can be so exhausting...I could use more beige.

Yes I also found Kristi's post inspiring, I could have delved deeper, sort of wish I had. Beautiful picture.

Your hair is extra special. As is the fact that you are so very photogenic.

Beige is beautigful, the world needs more beige. The meek shall inherit the earth, right?

You are beautiful Michelle! I am glad you did this one and I find your extra special ability to be enviable. I consider myself pretty go with the flow, but I would love to be more accepting, more accommodating, more like YOU.

What a beautiful picture and what a great personality trait! I sincerely wish I knew how to be beige--I don't think I have very many serene moments...I'm just too intense.

My husband is definitely a beige person and it's the #1 reason I married him--I love that he balances me. The world needs a lot more people like you, Michelle.

I think beige is beautiful on you! I think your personality is such that it makes you have a calming effect on others. That is good!

To me, it is!

I used to always come out as white on that personality color test as a teen, and wondered if time had changed that so I took it again a few years ago. Some things just don't change. I was just as white as ever. I haven't had my aura read though, interesting!

This is a beautiful self-portrait. You make a great case for beige being beautiful!

oh michelle this one foto is amazing. you look serene! I LOVE SERENITY...there is so much texture to that word. Wow...I am glad you are seeing things differentlty thanks to jen, but how can jen say she has nothing super extra special, being a mum of more than 2 kids to me is a super hero....and she still manages to be beautiful inside and out! I loved the part in the book where the guy reads her fortune...I think there is something mystical about stuff like that//aura//etc., my friend esther had hers done and it is just like a different insight into life...we have our patriarchal blessings too! Well, I am thrilled that you are finding out this and that we are part of your paradigm shift. Cheers!

Now that I think about it, I've never got the impression that you're a 'flappy' sort of person! Yes, you do ooze serenity! You and the Virgin Mary!

Jill's funny with her comment. I immediately thought of her being the 'colour matching machine' you get in a DIY shop. Desperately trying to mix the exact right shade, whilst juddering around with almost out-of-control energy. Bless her.

dang i wish i was beige unstead of bright hot pink-red most of the time.
heck if you lived with me for a year in a 12x12 foot room and never compalined then yes you are extra special!!! how did you do it?

this is a fantastic picture of you and a great post too! you are right that being neutral and easy going is extra special, not everyone has this ability and especially in today's day and age, it's a big deal! and you DO have some baking skills girl! i'm always envious of what you're cooking for creative friday! great post!

I love that you have embraced your beige-ness. I love that you have a calming sense about you. Excellent picture, as usual!

I love this. I tend to get along with most people too, but I wouldn't call myself serenity. I just have so much going on in my head I can find common ground with just about anyone. I certainly envy people who are calm and collected and don't let everything get them worked up like I do. I love the picture.

Your picture is so great...you are beautiful!

Also, I'm so glad you used the word verklempt in another post because I had always listened to this Barbra Streisand CD with my Mom where she used the word verklempt but I didn't think it was a word, I just thought I was mishearing whatever word she was saying...now I know.
