Creative Friday & second date

Creative Friday always seems to come around right when I need it. This time, it was so great to show Jill my newly organized studio, and to have her be as excited about it as I was! (She's one of very few people who know just how bad it was before, so she can really appreciate the dramatic turnaround.) Then we settled in to our usual chatting, eating, and correspondence.

As Jill was shaking some pebble ice into her mouth, she commented that the cup covered her whole face. I hadn't ever noticed, but then when she pointed it out... it was pretty funny.

She wasn't too keen on being dropped off and picked up by Randy, a.k.a. The Groove Buster.
Luckily, she has her car back now!

Last night, Marc and I went on our February date -- yes, again on the last day of the month! I really tried to do it earlier this time, but for various reasons it didn't work out. Our February date was supposed to be re-creating one of our earliest dates, but Marc really wanted to go to The Melting Pot, so he used his veto power for this one.

We had both heard about this restaurant from friends, but this was our first time there. Our waiter asked us if we were celebrating a special occasion, and we just smiled and said no. (although it was pretty expensive!)

Unfortunately, most of the pictures I took in the restaurant didn't turn out at all. Marc was a good sport about the public self-portrait, however. In fact, he said that next time we'll have to mix it up a little, come up with a different kind of self-portrait. Aha! He's starting to come around...

The food was really good, better than I expected. I thought that a fondue restaurant (in America, anyway) sounded kind of gimmicky - I didn't think it would be anything unusual. But like I said, it exceeded my expectations. Our cheese fondue was a blend of 3 cheeses, including blue, and we had bread, apples, and vegetables to dip. We both loved it.

We chose the oil for the main course, and they brought us filet mignon, pork, chicken, shrimp, and ravioli to dip, with many sauces on the side. (Our favorite was the filet mignon with gorgonzola sauce.) Again, yum. One tiny problem, however: a fondue mishap! A fondue injury, if you will. I burned the inside of my lip. I'm still not really sure how I managed to do that, but now I have a big blister. It was unfortunate, as it diminished my ability to fully enjoy the dessert course, which was fabulous:

For the chocolate fondue, we chose dark chocolate with a swirl of chunky peanut butter. Surprisingly, the cheesecake was our least favorite dipper -- the fruit was wonderful, and I especially enjoyed the two kinds of marshmallows.

But I would have to say the best part of the date was the 4 hours of uninterrupted conversation. You don't get that while going to a movie, and it definitely never happens at home!

Today was not nearly as great as yesterday, which is to be expected. But this was a highlight: Lucas and Landon playing the American Idol game. They were cracking me up. Unfortunately, Landon got wise to my efforts at recording them on "film":

Oh how I love the American Idol game! I had so much fun playing with your whole family over Thanksgiving! And your SP with Marc is way cute :)

That cup of ice is seriously huge if it can eclipse my whole face!

Your self-portrait with Marc is so cute. I think you're on to something with your gift of a monthly date and it will be really great to have photos to go with all of them.

It's too bad Landon caught on to your filming, it's seriously funny when the kids sing.

I love the Melting Pot! I had a fondue injury the first time as well. That is such a cute picture of you two- I need to start taking them of Linc and me on our monthly ones, I keep forgetting!

My favorite part of the video is hearing you laugh- too bad he caught on!

what an adorable post. i am slowing getting back in the groove...i don't think i will have time to pick up everyone's life where i left off, but it is nice to be able to grab on and hold on to the now...of things...i loved your voice too...it was nice to hear...to bad he caught on...it would have been fun. i don't think i could do a self portrait with alf...not at this point in life, but it sounds like fun having a date...i haven't had one in many many months....glad to hear fondue was good. my brother often raves about it....and has said we should just go for 'dessert,' but being a carnivourous and a cheese lover, it wouldn't do justice...maybe one day a date like that will come along...something to wish for...for sure

I love the date a month idea. A few months ago, my husband and I realized that we hadn't truly been out by ourselves in a very long time. We do get a babysitter occasionally, but usually it is for a "function" whether work related or community service or church. OR we meet up and go with others which is good fun but still not just us. We did go to dinner and a movie after that but not since. I am going to plan this for our next anniversary present! Love this idea!!

Mmmm. . .The Melting Pot. I've only been there once but it was good. I would go for dessert there any time. I love going on dates that don't include movies. I love the time to talk and hang out and just be a couple! I'm glad you had such a fun time.

I keep thinking about your craft room. It's current state, though I've only seen pictures, is making me happy, and excited to get mine in order!

After a long week of my husband being out of town I went & bought the A.Idol game on friday night. WE have been having so much fun with it! it is 10000% better than guitar hero!

We went to the melting pot for our anniversary a couple years ago. It's so expensive but it takes so long to eat- it's all about the experience. i loved it too. If you only get a date night once a month I say that's not expensive at all! Definately worth it

what a great date night. i love your idea of a themed date for each month. brilliant!

your sp is too cute. the love shines through.

we have a melting pot but have never been-- for many of the reasons you listed. i think the cheese course sounds great and of course dessert but i just can't get around the cooking of the meat course. strange?

My dog likes your laugh, he had to come into the den to see what was going on when I watched your film!
That restaurant sounds so unique, I need to get more creative with our dates.

That is a great picture of you and Marc!

We've been to the Melting Pot once here, and loved it, too. The problem with ours is that it's underground, and so no cell signal at all, which makes me too uncomfortable to leave little kids with a babysitter for that long, so we haven't been since PQ's arrival.

Love the video!

I love the Melting Pot. It is one of my fave places for a special night out. I've never done the traditional (oil) cooking method. We usually do coq au vin, which is oh so delicious.

Your date with Marc sounds like it was super fun! I really would like to try that place, but we don't have anything like that here. At least that I know of. I think the self-portrait turned out cute!

i remember the first and only time i have been to the melting pot, we were in school and i went with some girl friends. each persons bill was $75 that was my grocery budget for the month. i thought i was going to start to cry. i was so mad at my friends for taking me there and not warning me of how expensive it would be i would never have gone - i look back now and realize all of my friends ordered everything on the menu and i was drinking water instead of soda so that the bill would be cheaper - after all these years i am still not laughing about it.
jeff and i have big plans to go on a date this weekend, we have not in MONTHS! this has inspired me to email and find a baby sitter right now.
