... is making me crazy! She hasn't taken a nap since December 2nd. No tapering off, no every-other-day-napping, nothing. Don't get me wrong: it's not that she just doesn't need a nap anymore -- she does, she's cranky as anything -- she just will not go to sleep! I will never understand my childrens' resistance to sleep. I, for one, love it...
{in the above photo, she decided to lie down on the butcher block and "take a nap". What a cruel hoax!}

Ohh, soo sorry. That is the absolute worst when they go through that transition of not wanting to nap anymore. My Olivia hit it very early and it about made me crazy! If she ever did fall asleep it would be around 5 in the evening and then I couldn't get her to wake up and she would be up all night long! Stay sane.
Oh Michelle! I can't believe she fell to sleep there- what in the world?!?!
Mya is doing the nap thing every 2-3 days. I wouldn't mind it if she wouldn't be so damn grumpy and emotional the rest of the night!
.sigh.
It is hard to believe that someday we will have to force them to get up in the morning.
I agree with you - why resist? And then be grouchy? Ugh.
Hannah -- she is not really sleeping, as that would be giving in -- oh no, she is merely pretending...
Tell her Santa loves little girls who take naps:)
5 out of my six kids stopped taking naps by 2 1/2. The idea of missing something was just too much to bear I guess. It's so tough. My fussiest little girl is now the sweetest pre teen in the world, maybe that will give you hope!
My favorite family doctor (now retired) told me, when Emily was a baby and wouldn't nap regularly, that his personal opinion was that not sleeping much was a sign of intelligence! Not much comfort to a frustrated young mother who isn't getting anything done because she has a cranky child clinging to her leg.
It's baffling to me, why don't kids want to sleep? Especially since her naps take place while the boys are at school, so it's not like she's missing out on all the fun or anything.
Heaven help you!
oh michelle there is nothing more frustrating than a child that needs sleep and can't manage to do it. I still have issues with Jorvik once he sleeps he is off for 3 hours, but his resistance has gone up on some days...making me go more weary...I hear you. Does she sleep in the car? Mine never did, but I hear some as soon as the car goes they go....maybe a ride around the neighborhood?
ahh... bella is on a similar track, though not as infuriating as eva's... she hasn't napped in 3 out of th elast 4 days, and often 'goes to sleep' on the pillows, couch, wherever. What a fun game.
Little Eva. Hope she naps again soon. She looks so cute though!
Cute little 1/2 smirk on her face!
Do you find yourself singing 'You
better watch out -you better not pout.....' when she is a grump?HA!
oh wow. i feel for you. my girls gave up naps early and need only minimal sleep to boot. Dang, why am I the only one in the house who needs and loves sleep?
Hang in there!
I saw the category "smotherhood" and just died. That is beautiful and profound and hilarious all at once.
My seven-year-old had a flying, freaking fit tonight before dinner. I sent her to her room where she promptly fell asleep. Thank heavens for that.
Argghh! That is the worst! The thing that gets me is that it makes me mad that they are hurting themselves and there is nothing you can do about it so I get mean. And what's the point of that? They're being mean to their bodies so you are mean to them on top of it? Good luck with those naps!
I can't believe she is faking it there! She must be mocking you with that pretend sleep. That just isn't right! Oh to have the joy of napping every day. She does not know what she is missing!
michelle, you new blog makeover is AWESOME! you are such an artist. the photo an font is beautiful.
sally jane gave up naps forever ago, but then took one for 4 hours yesterday....
Oh, the loss of naps is a very sad day.
I do not get the resistance to sleep either. Sleep is my talent (and my love).
I love Amie's comment -- "sleep is my talent". I have that talent, too!
PQ is giving me similar fits. She's so tired and grouchy, so I put her down for a nap, and she proceeds to sing or yell or whatever, and never falls asleep. I don't get it, because the first question my mind and body ask after getting up in the morning is, "I wonder if I could take a nap today?" The answer is always no, but every day I wish someone would scoop me up, put me in a cozy spot with a couple blankets, shut the door and say goodnight. They don't realize the beautiful thing they've got going on!
Had to pop over and say HOW DARLING are those tags you made for Jill. Love them. How did you make them? Fancy machine or just creative genuis at work? (still looking for ideas for crafting supplies/machines for my Christmas list!)
It's just not right. Good luck with that one!
