I stumbled onto this website today: www.freerice.com. You play a word game (choosing a synonym for a given word) and for each correct answer, they donate 20 grains of rice through the United Nations to help end world hunger. I got sucked in and played it for about 15 minutes, and it was hard! And fun.
John, Emily, Charlotte, Jessie, April... this is for you. Test your word knowledge and expand your vocabulary! Any other takers?

I surprised myself and did really well, even with words I thought I was clueless with. Great, now I have yet another thing to do online.
That was a little too fun...5 minutes and 1160 grains of rice later, I don't feel as dumb as I thought I would :) As Jill said- another thing to do online!!!
If Hannah got 1160 grains of rice in 5 minutes maybe I didn't do as well as I thought I did.
Love it! Love it! Will visit often.
I love it too. That was so fun. I think my husband will be hooked also.
I found this website a few weeks ago and it can be addicting. I don't feel so bad taking a few minutes at work to feed the less fortunate.
Pretty much this was awesome!
That was fun! I played for about 10-12 min and ended up with 2000 grains of rice. So cool!
Flipping heck, people come up with astounding ideas to raise funds and supplies for things, don't they? I'd have never have thought of something like this in a million years!
Okay, I've just 'done' 2000 grains or rice, but now I feel I must drag myself away and do some mothering of my child! Haha.
Gosh, it helps if you did a bit of Latin at school, doesn't it? And a lot of it is about thinking logically. E.g. I wasn't sure what 'ruth' meant until I thought about what 'ruthLESS' means. 'Maladroit' I figured from the French translation of what adroit is, and what mal means. And 'Mufti' I got easily - because it's mentioned in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang! Ho ho!
Brilliant link, Michelle. I'll be passing this around to all I know.
This was fun.... I had to pull myself away... I can see it would be a time sucker.
Ooo, lots of fun...and I agree with Amanda's comment about the latin. When I saw my name on the post, I thought, "She couldn't mean me, could she?" What a compliment...if you really did mean me...if not, I'm completely embarrassed.
I thought it was a stupid idea at first but it is highly addictive. (I already donated 1,000 grains of rice in about 4 minutes)
