spt -- comfort food

Ah, comfort food. I can think of so many! Sadly, food is all too comforting to me, and it is always so conveniently available! I think I need to find other, more diverse comforts in my life...

Baking is inherently comforting. I love the process, I love the results. (That's one of the reasons I hate the thought of dieting -- I mean changing my lifestyle -- I can't give up baking! Sure, I could still bake things for other people, but... it's too hard to abstain from home-baked goodness.)

Here's my little baking buddy. She loves it just as much as I do. Cooking, not so much, but if I am baking, she is all about being my little helper girl. She was cranky yesterday afternoon, but when I proposed making cookies to take to book club, she was instantly, magically happy.

She needed a little guidance in getting her balls of cookie dough bigger than fairy-sized.

And the finished product! I love aprons, and I have several cute ones, but I usually forget to put them on. Because of spt, I remembered. By the way, these are Hannah's chewy ginger cookies, they are perfect for Fall. (You can find the recipe here.)

I love chewy ginger cookies, yum! Love your little baking buddy, the fairy cookies are adorable!

You're not the only one that finds too much comfort in food. I'm in that crowd too.

Your post is comfort for me Michelle!

I love eating, baking, aprons, eating what I baked while wearing my apron...

My kids like to help too but I can't stand the mess they make so I am not very patient with them. Something for me to work on.

There's a whole lot of comfort coming out of your kitchen, so your kids are going to grow up having lots of favorites.

Whitney and I made cookies last Friday for Randy's birthday, but that amount of baking is enough to hold me over for quite awhile. I don't like the mess, and often even get irritated by having nowhere to put whatever it is I made. I'm retarded.

Baking is a favorite activity at our house, too. Avery's current dream job is a pastry chef. Last year she bought a cookbook at her school book fair with her own money. It cracked us up, but she really has a passion.

I loved your little fairy sized cookies -- how cute! She looks like quite the helper!

I posted about cookie comfort too. And Griffin is my partner in crime when it comes to baking.

Baking in itself is a true comfort for me as well. Making something with you hands to be enjoyed is so pleasing. I am learning to still let it be a comfort when Mya is involved and we are getting there. Baby steps.

I have those cookies on my list to make next week. Yours look like they turned out so good. Chewy is the way to go!

Those cookies look yummo! I'm with you on the baking thing. When I bake, I eat, and so I try not to bake. But there is something about having homemade goodies that just feels like fall!

I love that you bake with your daughter! My daughter loves it too, and this reminded me that I don't do it enough with her.

I have all but quit baking. I do really enjoy it though. I should start doing more so the kids will have great memories. Eva is so cute in the kitchen.

I had no idea Hannah even had a recipe blog :). Funny. I have noticed a few people add recipe blogs. It would be fabulous to have a recipe blog where we could all be contributors and submit our favorite recipes. Hmm. I may have to think about starting that up.
