We are going to St. George tomorrow for a little family getaway. Can you believe we have never been to St. George? Or been on a vacation with just our little family? I am really looking forward to both of those things, and hoping that everyone can stay healthy for maximum vacation enjoyment.
Unfortunately, Lucas doesn't weigh enough to get a patch for motion sickness. We're going to try liquid Benadryl. I sure hope he isn't sick the whole way there!
If you have any suggestions on what we should do while in St. George, please let me know.

Exciting! I love a little trip to look forward to. We would drive through St George a few times a year making our way from Vegas to WA. I wish I knew some of the restaurant names, they always seemed to have good places to eat that were hometown joints. And a great ice cream place. Maybe it all was better because I was younger. I'm sure someone will answer you better than me. In fact, this isn't an answer at all is it? Sorry.
We always, always did Brigham Young's summer home. My grandpa was a caretaker there when I was little so my mom would use that as a get out and rest place on the way home.
Crossing my fingers for you and the whole gang to have full health. Hope Lucas is ok in the car.
I went to Dixie College 10 years ago. I bet St George has changed so much, but I loved ice cream at a place on the bulevard....oh I wish I could remember the name. There is (or was) a mini-golf place called Fiesta Fun that had fast go carts and an arcade. I also love Tuacan, but I am not sure how your husband and boys feel about musicals. Other than that we use to break into hotel swimming pools for fun, thats probably out.
Well...my only vote would be to not run a marathon. While very rewarding, it's definitely not relaxing.
And, as much as I would love to help, I have no kids and don't often think about what would be fun for them. I'm all about pools at hotels. Oh, and I do enjoy the fact that they have a Jack in the Box (sad, but true). Otherwise, I'm in it for the outlet shopping.
I hope you have a great time!
Great place. Your kids will love it. Fiesta Fun , still there,. Outlets are always fun also. Have a safe sick free trip
How fun. I can't believe you have never been there. The kids always seem to like the pool more than any of the expensive entertainment we try to plan while on vacation.
We gave our kids Bonine (sp?) in Hawaii. Can he have that? Motion sickness is the worst!
Have a great time!!!
have fun!! little family vacations are so important - and yet, they're so easy to overlook. enjoy your time together!!
The Frostop--a MUST stop!
Zions National Park is so close and so beautiful. Have fun!
It's totally weird for me to imagine your little family heading to St. George for a mini-break, though it's not strange at all to imagine you packing up for Paris!
I hope it's a great trip with healthy, happy family members, great weather and long soaks in the tub with a book. Enjoy!
Have a great time! That area is so beautiful with the fall colors and the red rock. I remember a place called Larsen's off of one of the main drags that has shakes that are to die for!! I hope you find it!
Have fun on your getaway! My favorite family vacations were always the ones when we just went up to the mountains for a few days--have a good relaxing time!
St George is great. WE love hiking around Zions and Snow Canyon. They have a dinosuar museum that I'm sure the boys would love. Downtown they a lot of craft and furniture stores that you would like.
Have fun.
Have you thought of getting Lucas a motion sickness braclet, they work by pressure points. I use them because I get motion sickness. we got mine at bed bath and beyond.
Sounds like fun. Disregard the message I just left on your home phone about the possibility of picking up Emily at the airport for her weekend visit to Provo! (Where's Timm when we need him?!) Can't wait to hear and see the details of your getaway.
How fun! I've never stopped in St. George (drove through a few times), so I have no suggestions. But, I love those little family getaways. Enjoy!
WHat a beautiful sight!
Have a wonderful time.
If you go to Zion, which is well worth it, make sure to spend some time in Springdale. It's the little town just at the entrance to Zion. It's got great restaurants, art galleries, shopping and atmosphere. Even if you don't go into Zion, Springdale is worth the trip.
The Pasta Factory, right on St. George Boulevard is a good place to eat and the shopping center it's in - Ancestor Square - is worth spending time in.
Going on the tour of Brigham Young's home (as Melanie suggested) is interesting.
Snow Canyon has some nice paved trails for leisurely hiking/walking.
It's a perfect time of year to go! Enjoy!!
Hi Michelle,
Melissa Fowler here-the faux member of Denise's family. I love St. George. I am pretty sure there is a Nielsen's Frozen Custard there, my personal favorite frozen confection! Also, one summer I went on the tour at the Temple Visitor's Center and felt such a strong spirit. Like Elisa, I am a huge fan of musicals and have heard that Tuacahn is great. I have been to the Tony Award winning Utah Shakesperean Festival in Cedar City and was never disappointed! This is the final month of the festival and it is about 45 minutes before St. George.
Have a fantastic time!
Oh - I hope you are having fun!
I feel for Lucas - I have spent my entire life sick in the car. Ugh. Mint candy, cold air in my face, the works. Good luck!
Although I've never been to St. George, I have certainly done a massive amount of road tripping..
I'm glad you like the image I shot, as it heads your entry (my tireless internet gnomes told me)... it's highway 287 from Laramie, Wyoming, to Fort Collins, Colorado... truly a stunningly beautiful road that has a lot of memories on it for me..
although usually I am a bit ticked when someone "borrows" an image of mine, (as it happens a lot, images are taken from my blog all the time).. in this case, after reading a couple of your entries, I don't mind too much...
you sound like a lovely person, and maybe our paths will cross in Salt Lake sometime.. maybe they already have.....
hmmmm.. for some reason, the comment machine swallowed my URL, let's try again...

From CA, our family spent many summer holidays there -where my
grandparents lived. I like it there.Love the red rock ;)
Just so you know...I'm glad you're having a vacation and hopefully getting to relax, but I miss you and wish you were posting from St. George!
Have a great time! Love the Utah landscape in your photo.
i just can't get enough of that fantastic pic!
hope you had a wonderful time!
I hope you have a fabulous time. I can't wait to hear about your trip when you get back!
I think I will be doing this exact road trip in a couple of weeks. Hoping to enjoy their fall for a bit.
Hope the drive went ok, both ways.
