1. Keep her up for hours during the night. Sleep deprivation is a well-documented form of torture.
2. If you can manage to throw up a few times, necessitating clothing and bedding changes, so much the better.
3. Get up at 4:30 a.m. for the day.
4. Whatever you do, don't lie listlessly on the couch all day.
5. Resist any and all attempts at comforting your mother tries to provide.
6. If she persists in trying to hold you or give you a hug, scream and call "Daddy! Daddy!"
7. If she tries to calm you down, reasonably pointing out that she'll have to do, since Daddy is not home, melt down.
8. You may have to break down and take a nap, but keep it at 1 1/2 hours, no more.
9. Repeat.
BONUS: See what you can do about passing your germs around to your siblings.

Oh Michelle! I am so sorry! I was thinking about you today after reading the comment on Jill's blog yesterday about Eva being sick and hoping that it was just a 24 hour thing. This list just makes me sad for you.
Sleep deprivation is the worst! Snap! that sounds very familiar, as
a mom -I hope she recovers soon ;)
Sounds like a not so fun time over there. So sorry about the sickness and hope for your sake it passes fast!
My breaking point is after #1, if you made it past #2 let alone to #9, you are a patient and excellent mother! I'm sure that does not make you feel any better, but I still think you are amazing!
I am praying it does NOT spread! Even though that is not so much your luck with sicknesses is it?! I'm sorry!
Sounds like a 'terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day' hope tomorrow is much better.
This sort of thing makes me sooooo frustrated for you. I am the worst with irrational behavior and just walk away after I've offered everything I can. I hope this sickness passes quickly and does NOT strike anyone else.
Oh no!! So sorry to hear you've got a poor sick child on your hands! I hope it passes quickly!!
Argh, what a nightmare. Especially annoying when they want Daddy when he's not around. Girls can be fickle like that!
I hope Eva's sickness clears off soon and you can catch up on your sleep.
I can't function during the sleep deprivation stage. What a hard, hard day---or two or three! I hope is ends fast and the germ spreading is limited.
Sad, sad, sad, sad, so sad. . .
You poor- poor mother. I'm sorry to hear about Eva. I swear sleep deprivation is such a freaking nightmare, but when you add a sick child it is even worse.
Hope things turn around.
Although this was torture for you - I found your post hysterical. I may have to use it in my classes - the parents will all be able to realte! Last night we went to Paula Poundstone and she said something that I just loved. If you don't know, she is a comedienne and a mother of 3. She suddenly laid down on the stage and said "I wish I had a degenerative disease - and I'll tell you why: I would feel the same and do all of the same things, but people would think I was really courageous." In spite of the joke - you are courageous. What amazing, beautiful children you are raising. Some days the hallmark of success is that everyone is still alive at the end of the day. Hang in there!
sending you a big hug, complete with "i want my michelle!!" to hopefully brighten your day.
oh my goodness. hugs to you.
no sleep or broken sleep kills me.
hope things improve...
dang, and hope the others don't catch it.
yikes. That sounds like a recipe for misery! Hope Eva is feeling better, and no one else got sick :(
I am so sorry! My 3 year old Fletcher and I were at it this morning. After reminding him we don't say "hate", that it's a yucky word, he told me he hates me! I have never had one of my children say anything like that to me. I put him out in the garage for time out and told him he could come in where it's warm only after apologizing. He sat out there for at least 20 minutes (freezing). Finally after about 20 opportunities to apologize, he caved. Stubborn little snot!
That is so rad about Lucas and Preston being in the SAME class and that you've worked with him! I love it!
Maybe that's why I had a total melt down last Friday! I'm sorry that Eva's sick. Poor Mason's been going on almost 2 weeks of this sickness. Now Nate has it. Why can't everyone just be well?!!?
Yuck!
Luci kept me sleep deprived when she was younger and I look back now and wonder how I survived!
The list's just hypothetical, right? Written for our amusement?
No? I'm so sorry!
Oh dear! I hope that by now things are looking up. This list is just too sad.
Grandmotherhood is grand!
Wow, you were nothing like that! In fact, exactly opposit! I didn't
even know when you were sick!!!
Great post, as in very creative! I am sorry to read that you have what sounds like the flu at your house. Hope she gets well soon.
Poor Eva, whoops I mean poor Michelle. Sorry!
Oh dear. I am speechless. Excellent post though... too bad such horrid circumstances to bring out your writing skills.
Michelle, you have the worst time when it comes to illnesses. I can't believe your kids are sick again! I don't know how you handle it. I would be a total mess. I suspect, though, that only about any combination of three of these things would drive me to the breaking point. If you can last through endless rotations of 9 of those things, you are a strong woman indeed.
