My good friend Katrina came to visit from Seattle. I was shocked when we realized that we haven't seen each other for four years! Unacceptable. During that time period, she got married (I missed the wedding because it was in Kenya!), I had my last baby, and she had her first baby. We had a lot of catching up to do. Fortunately, ours is one of those friendships where we can pick up where we are now.
She brought us smoked salmon and arranged this beautiful platter of cheeses, crackers, olives, and apples to go with it. (Our favorite part was the Stilton with apples and pears -- to die for.) We popped a bottle of our homemade grape juice to round out the feast and it was the perfect accompaniment.
She also brought us a Seattle deck of cards to signify her desire to play. I absolutely love to play cards, but we rarely seem to do it these days. We were reunited with our dear friend, the kids were in bed, we had incredible food (which I did not have to prepare), and we played cards for a couple of hours. That's my kind of night!
Along the lines of feasting, my darling neighbor spooked us last night. (The packaging was a dead give-away as to who left this plate of cookies on our doorstep.) Sugar cookies are one of my favorite treats.

Wait when did you go to Kenya??
Oh michelle I guess we are kindred souls after all...I love to play cards, but rarely do, I don't know that many games anymore...and definately, I loved the platter it looks sooo nice, and probably is very tasty. Your friend sounds like an awesome friend to have. Wow you did have a lot of catching up to do, but what a perfect scenario to do so. And that basket is sooo appealing to me, I love sugar cookies too!
simply delightful...all of it. i must be hungry because that plate of smoked salmon and crackers is making my mouth water!
That food does sound perfect. Especially along with everything else.
I'm hungry for lunch and your plate of goodies looks divine! Nothing like that here today that's for sure.
I wish I didn't hate to make them (too many steps for my liking) because I love, love sugar cookies. This is the best time of year because they are always around Halloween and Christmas. Yum.
Good food and a good friend makes for fun! Glad you had a nice visit - I always enjoy catching up with old friends.
I need to see a picture of her. It's crazy that after all these years of hearing about her, I've never seen her!
Tasty treats, cards and a good friend are excellent combination!
I want to live in your neighborhood!
Lucky! It all sounds delightful.
That spread looks awesome- Stilton with apples AND pears...that sounds divine!
I love those friendships where time doesn't seem dampen the bond and you can pick up right where you left off.
That sounds like a perfect evening.

Catching up with friends is one of my favorite things. I hope you guys had a great few days.
How gourmet! What a wonderful reunion!
Loved your last post on hormones! I'm riding that wave this week, and oh what a joy it is! Also, that article was great! I've been trying to get to bead at 10pm and up at 6am...it's, um, a work in progress!
It was fun seeing you today at the school! You are always so beautiful and put-together!AND you cook and bake from scratch? How do you do it all, girl!?
Visiting with old friends is the best! The cheese and apples and pears sound so good!
There's nothing better than a visit from an old friend!
Mmmm...platters! You can't beat a good platter of things! Are you a Stilton fan? My husband is too, but I don't care for it. I love Emmental and Jarlsberg.
Love card games too, but it's ages since I played any. I remember I used to like playing 'Newmarket' but I'm pushed to recall what the rules were. *rolls eyes*
