I finally got a singer! (The boys can sing, they just don't really like to. And in Max's case, he mistakenly thinks he can't.) Eva sings ALL the time, and I couldn't be happier about it. Her songs undergo an evolution of sorts as she learns the lyrics better over time. I almost always wish we could revert to the earlier versions.
Some examples:
The alphabet song started out as A-B-C-B-A-B-9! Every time without fail.
Then the tricky L-M-N-O-P part was "I'm a little pea!". Now she sings it correctly and I really miss the old ways.
Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star was a favorite for months.
For awhile, she would sing "how I wonder whatcha are" with a real country twang. Then there was the Amish version "how I wonder what ye are".
This past summer, Eva latched on to a board book her Grandma Mim gave her with the lyrics to 6 Primary songs in it. Now she knows all the words to I Am a Child of God, I Am Like a Star, When We're Helping, Follow the Prophet, I Hope They Call Me on a Mission, and I Love to See the Temple. But the undisputed favorite is Follow the Prophet.
She must sing that song at least 20 times a day. Any time she is feeling happy, it just comes bursting forth. There are also many many variations to it, including singing the whole thing in animal noises (e.g. woof woof woof woof woof woof). We're used to it at home, but when we're out and about she causes quite a stir. She was even singing it as we were walking into Sacrament Meeting recently.
I recorded her singing with my mom during their recent visit, only to discover that I framed it like a photo, with a portrait orientation, and now I can't seem to rotate it. Argh! Max and I tried again the other night when we were baking cookies. It's not her best performance, riddled as it is with self-imposed interruptions, but it still cracks me up.

So cute!!! I have a niece who was quite the performer at Eva's age. She would get up on her chair at dinner (it was hard to reprimand when you knew the concert that was about to happen) and start singing. Old songs, new songs, morphed songs about anything and everything.
They grow up so fast!
That video is so sweet. SHe has a darling little voice.
That is so darling. I love the mid-song commentary!
Even though I've heard her sing in person and have seen this video before, it's so cute. I love it at the end when she repeats "He knows the way!"
That was SO cute I just about died. And my favorite part: "He knows the way!!" She's so excited about the prophet!
oh my that is so cute. She is a great singer. The commentaries remind me of my Kira, she constantly commenating her life no matter what we are doing.
That was definitely worth posting. Too cute.
Ahhh, he's knows da wiiiiy! That's so cute! She's so tiddly.
By the way, I confused myself when you wrote, 'I've finally got a singer!' I thought you meant a Singer sewing machine. *stop it with the craft-head, Amanda!*
I love it!!! She really hit that high note at the end, impressive!
My brother can sing too, but doesn't believe he can, whats up with that??
I love hearing Evie sing. If she catches me listening to her she gets real mad and stops though!
Oh my goodness! That was SO cute! My cheeks hurt from smiling so big during her performance (and commentary). Her voice is so cute, and I also loved the end repeat of "He knows the way!"
Oh my!!! She is SOooo cute singing!
Especially her song choice ;) ciao
That is such a cute video clip, even cuter with the talking in the middle!
are you kidding me???
sally jane just said, "i like that"
i can not believe that she can sing a song like that! i loved the stopping and talking!!!
this makes me think i need to teach SJ a song. there is no way she could do this!!
michelle, i love hearing your voice talking to her in the back it is so tender.
and i am with jill the last line is the best!
yeah i can't stop watching that. But it makes me kind of wistful :( Bella can't stop watching it either! she holds the note so well and the words are so clear!! Bella loves to sing, and make up words, but it doesnt sound like that!
and it's unanimous- the end is fantastic. a keepsake for sure.
and im with kristi- i love to hear your voice in the background, but that makes me wistful too.
He really DOES know the way!
Okay, Lindsey & Natalie have begged me to play the video 10 times! She is so sweet, I can barely take it! Especially at "he knows the way!". Aren't you happy you caught that on video? Thanks for sharing it.
SO MUCH CUTENESS! She must be really smart, Michelle. Wow! I wish I could pinpoint her "accent" though - how sad when she starts to sound like the rest of us!
Well, THAT is the perfect way to end a way stressful week! I will have smile on my face and in my heart all night!
What a love. I will keep that one for anytime I feel overwhelmed. Eva will remind me that the Prophet knows the way if I will follow. Thankyou!
what a darling...I am sooo impress that she can sing and know so many songs...I am put to shame...Jorvik only knows how to sing a couple lines of the pirate's song...and hums the rest...wow. Amazing. She sounds sooo cute
My kids and I giggled at how sweet and smart Eva is! What a cutie pie!
Preston came home telling us about Lucas's wig; it was fun to be able to actually see what he was talking about! What a character! He also informed me they were in the same class last year...funny! :)
Is she not the cutest thing. It's hard to see them grow up and start to say/sing things the right way. At least you'll always have that video. Man, she's cute.
That was so cute, thanks for bringing a smile to my face.
ok i may be addicted to this video.
i had to come back and watch it tonight!!! it is so great.
i have tried for the past few days to teach some song to SJ and no dice -
so if i didn't already think your daughter was a genius, i sure do now!!!
still can't stop watching. Our wholew family. After the last time(s) we watched it Bella said, 'Shell sing a song?'. so, you have a request now.
Oh my goodness Michelle! My little Sophie and I just watched the video and we are CRACKING up! That was the cutest thing. LOVED IT, LOVED IT!
This is a first for me--commenting twice on one blog post--but this video is the best thing going! Emily and I had to watch it again for a bedtime story. We're anxiously awaiting more star performances from darling Eva!
