This cute little mouse is just one of the happy animals painted on the walls of our dentist's office. It looks so friendly, so harmless. I say it's mouse propaganda.
It's one thing to see a mouse scampering through a meadow, and quite another to find this evidence of our unwanted visitors:
Yes, folks, a mouse chewed its way into a loaf of bread, which was in my bread basket, which is ON MY KITCHEN COUNTER. Siiiiiiiiiiiiiick!!!!!
Now we are debating whether we should keep our appointment with the exterminator tomorrow, which is evidently going to cost around $125, or whether we should tackle this problem on our own, with traps, steel wool, and the like. We were leaning towards canceling the appointment, but the bread... now they've gone too far.

On the counter?!?!? How do they get up there? So sorry Michelle! Now nothing is safe. Being the thrifty person I am, I always try to solve the problem myself then go to the more expensive experts if my patience wears thin. Good luck!
Oh Michelle, I pity you. I hate mice, too. They eat what isn't theirs, destory what doesn't belong to them and are sneaky. If you do decide to tackle them on your own the spray foam that you put around pipes to insulate them really helps...especially the parts you can't get stuffed with steel wool.
The little buggers have somehow climbed to the 4th shelf in my pantry. I don't know how they do it! Yuck. I am so sorry to hear that you haven't gotten rid of them. My friend used those Black and Decker things that you plug into the wall and she says they work. Don't know. Maybe $125 is worth it to be rid of them once and for all!
Ugggh!! This sounds like the straw that broke the camels back! I think this definitely calls for the professionals! Good luck!
umm DO NOT CANCEL the appointment!! How can you put a price on having a vermin-infested home? (Okay, we all know that i don't really think of mice as vermin, per se, but it's a lot more dramatic.) And I know when you have no money you can put a price on anything and everything, but stay with me here- you need professional help.
EEWWW! Again, I hate mice and get a weird satsifaction of seeing them dead in a mouse trap. Good luck.
ohhhh... it was just three years ago that we were trying to conquer an icky mouse situation. we did finally prevail, though. i just had matty deal with all of the, a-hem, stuff.
but i also need to comment that i had totally forgotten about it until rereading one of my journals. and i was definitely able to laugh about it now. so blogging this pesky problem will be good for laughs in the future (i HOPE!)
I agree... Mickey Mouse, the rats of Nimh, Stuart Little.... all deceiving, somewhat cuddly and benign creatures, much unlike the REAL ones who sneak onto your counter to partake of your family's food items. NOT RIGHT.
Good luck!
I'd go for the exterminator if he was on my counter. Now they're intruding your living space they've got to learn who's boss.
I agree, the kitchen counter is going wayyyyyyy tooooo far!
Is there really any question? GET THE EXPERTS OVER--STAT! The sight of the gnawed bag is enough to justify such drastic measures. The thought of them scampering on the counter is more that I can bear--EEWWwww!
The bread situation has gone too far. They are taking over! Ok that's dramatic but really I would hate to think how long it will take you and Marc to rid yourself of these fast. But I hate to think of spending $125 too. Good luck with what ever you choose!
I would not be canceling- mice are NOT something I would have patience to take care of myself!
I think you'll get a real sense of satisfaction if you just get the experts to deal with this problem once and for all. You're too busy to keep worrying IF you've beat it!
Sorry, but your predicament reminds me of this Catherine Tate sketch. She does a v.v.popular comedy show here. This sketch features her 'Nan' character who finds she has a mouse in her flat. There's swearing in it (oops), but her attitude is so funny. I hope your 'little Mickey' finds new pastures soon!

This is frightening. You know we had a problem with mice in our last house and since we never saw them in the house just in the garage we did what we could with traps, but they eventually got it. I would go with the exterminator, they know what they're doing.
i would KEEP the appointment. but that is just me. and i am a big chicken! :)
good luck

On the counter -- oh no! That is most upsetting! Now I'm wondering if you kept the exterminator appointment, and wonder if you've caught any more rodent intruders. I guess you can take comfort in the fact that if they were on the counter, at least they left evidence so that you could do something about it.
Oh my goodness! I think this may call for the professionals.... I really hate mice, they make me feel violated. I hope you got the problem solved, I am late to comment....
Nibbling on your bread on the counter is a little too close for comfort. Who do they think they are?? Good luck with this!
