spt -- I finally did it!!

Inspired by self-portrait Tuesday.

I have been meaning to resume my search for a roller shade to fit Eva's window. So last night, when I was making my to-do list for today, I included a trip to Home Depot. I found what I thought was the perfect size.

It ended up being about 1/4" too short. I was flustered, not wanting to go back to Home Depot (because, unlike Bella, I don't relish making trips there). Fortunately for me, Jill stopped by. She had the brilliant idea to install a tiny piece of wood behind the bracket -- it extended it just enough to make the shade fit!

Now we have a room-darkening shade in Eva's room so she can take a nap without crying about wanting to turn off the sun. Whew!

I have been meaning to figure out how to clean the grout in my bathroom. (Why oh why didn't someone talk me out of getting white tile for the bathroom floor?!) While I was at Home Depot, I got some grout cleaner and a brush. It took about an hour, but now the grout is very nearly white again!

Thank you, thank you, Lelly! Because of your spt challenge, I finally got these two jobs done and I'm thrilled.

I love it that yesterday's (or today's as the case may be) SPT was so motivating. You were super handy and motivated with your projects, and I must say I was happy to help.

Getting my oil changed wasn't hard, but it's something I needed to do for awhile now.

The grout cleaning supplies photo is so pleasing, especially with the polka-dotted gloves from Lisa.

i seriously LOVE the gloves. did not start wearing gloves until a few years ago and now i don't do dishes or clean without them. yours are just adorable though.

yay for projects, help from friends and white grout. i feel like lelly's nudge was awesome to get me thinking (at the very least) about other projects to tackle.

Wow, I can't even think about how many projects I have or want to do right now...I need to make a schedule of events, but apparently I need help in knowing what is a reasonable amount of time to complete a reasonable task...
incidentally, I don't use gloves for anything, ever, because I don't feel like I can really FEEL with them on. Hence, grody but very capable hands.

I have spent many hours on my knees cleaning the grout in my kitchen. I use a toothbrush and diluted bleach. Works wonders.

Hooray for room darkening shades.

Next time try Bar Keeper's Friend for your grout. The stuff is amazing and from the sounds of it way faster (I use it on almost anything). It's in the isle by comet but not as harsh. Perfect for sinks and grout.

Love Jill's solution. Yeah for dark shades. My boys live in a cave with their darkening shade but they sleep so much better that it's worth it to me.

YAY!! ooh, i should have posted a photo of our shower floor. it was quite gratifying to scrub. however, i see that i do not have the proper tools (gloves) to get the job right now!!

WOW! So impressed to see you with your own drill doing your own installation. I feel so "unnecessary". Also...maybe not for Marc, but certainly an attractive quality in a woman for me! (Hint Hint, JT)

Those gloves are darling! How cute.

The gloves are darling, and how satisfying to get those things accomplished. I have tons of little unfinished/unstarted projects around, and I think I really need to make a list and just start tackling them. I avoid, I avoid.

I second Melanie's recommendation on Barkeeper's Friend. I don't have white grout in this house (I used to have it on my kitchen counters, and soft scrub with bleach was my best friend.), but I use it on my sinks and pots and pans, and it's wonderful.

We had to do the same thing with Evie's blind in PA. I got it cut too narrow for the window. Those black out shades are a necessity in my book.

Are you sure your tile grout is sealed? It is often overlooked. If it looks like it soaks up water, changes color to darker after it gets wet, it may not be sealed. I would clean it well and seal or re-seal it and it should help keep dirt out of it.

So good to talk to you today. you are the best!

It does feel good to get things scratched off the to-do list! I love Eva's 'turn off the sun' too cute:)

It's so satisfying to get those type of jobs done. Checked off. What a great idea Jill had! Two heads can definitely be better than one.

Way to go! And so fulfilling I bet.

Okay...so my life is so crazy that the "I finally got around to it" involves folding clothes (or maybe it's not my life, but my distaste for laundry). In any case, for whatever reason your SPT is the one that inspired me to get going. Yeah, so I only got to the part where I changed my sheets, but now I have a nice, tightly made, crisp bed to get into.

Thanks, Michelle, for inspiring me! I have been taking pictures, so you will get the full effect.

We're BIG fans of blackout blinds here, so I'm glad you've got that one sorted.

White floor?? Yikes! Things like that look gorgeous in hotels and always look pristine, but then they get swept and mopped every single day by a chambermaid! And I should know - I once spent a summer as a chambermaid, keeping white bathrooms sparklingly spotless.

What funky gloves you've got!

Wow, the benefits of blogging. You got to exactly the kind of chores that I procrastinate.
My floor tile on my main floor is brown and grey and we chose light brown grout, but the grout has now turned grey. I can't seem to motivate myself to see if I can clean it.
