My sister-in-law (also Michelle) had tickets to the Conference Center and invited me to come along. And this is what I saw when I got to her house!

Fortunately, we were able to park in Marc's parents' condo parking, which is just behind the Conference Center, because it was a complete madhouse all around.

When Jill heard I was going, she said, "Imagine the note-taking possibilities!" I was glad she mentioned that, because I am so un-used to being able to take notes, I might actually have forgotten.
Here were the highlights for me:
- We must do the essential things before we do the non-essential things. These are personal habits that no one can do for us.
- We should understand and defend the divine rights of women. We must uphold, nourish, nurture, and protect families. With the Lord's help, we can teach and rear righteous children.
- Focusing on relief will always bring sociality, but sociality will not always bring relief.
- "We must get on our knees and plead with the Lord, then we must get on our feet and move forward. " (Pres. Hinckley)
- Satan is delighted when we give in, even a little.
- Pray earnestly. Do not pray for tasks equal to your abilities, but for abilities equal to your tasks.

This was the scene when we left. Good thing I was in good company! We had lots of time to talk. I always enjoy spending time with Michelle, but we both have busy lives (especially Michelle) and we live just far enough apart that we don't get together often enough. Time together with no kids is refreshing! We went to dinner together afterwards and talked some more. Good times.
Now I am really looking forward to General Conference!

One of my absolute favorite things about going to Relief Society is singing the opening and closing hymns. There is something amazing about a room full of women singing. I love it!
I missed the meeting. A hectic day including a birthday party, worrying about my basement leaking, Alexander crying all day and Jeremy climbing Mt. Timp (in the snow!) led to me being to tired and depressed to go. I should have. I'll have to go print up the talks and read them.
I've been anxiously awaiting your review, so I'm delighted to read it and to see so many pictures with it. They're all fabulous, but I love the one of all the women with the umbrellas especially.
I'm so glad you got to go with Michelle, what a treat, and something so out of the norm.
Great notes. I am especially hit this morning by "Satan is delighted when we give in, even a little." Because I didn't want to get out of the cozy this morning to go to the gym, it was too cold. Dang it.
How wonderful that you were able to go to the Conference Center to see it. I haven't been to SLC in quite a while and haven't been inside yet. Bummer.
I wanted to let you know that you've received a 'Great Tip Award' for your post on "One Single Word' you did in Jan. (I'm either a little late or a little early. ;) Anyway, congratulations and I hope you pass it on.
I was at the Conference Center too! I thought it was really cool and had a fun time. My whole apartment got to go and it was really a cool experience. The choir was amazing and I love how thousands and thousands of women there and also the many more who were watching are all united under the Gospel--it's amazing!
How fun that you got to go! I didn't know we should be looking for you in the audience! I thought it was such a great broadcast. I hadn't even thought of taking notes -- my mind was still spinning with salad.
I always love the RS Broadcast because it's such a warm, happy feeling to know that I am watching it with so many of my friends no matter where we live across the country.
What an amazing spectacle that Conference Centre is. I don't recall seeing meetings of Church of England like that over here, except in the open air. How many were there?? It must lift your spirits to giddy heights to come together like that.
And your notes are just lovely. I love the one about abilities and tasks.
That is awesome that you have finally been to the conference center. I thought the speakers were great but a bit disheartened that Pres. Hinckley didn't speak. I guess I will have to wait 'til this weekend. My favorite part was the dinner the stake provided beforehand! J/K- no I liked the quote from Isaiah where the Savior says three times 'I will help thee.' Which I need a lot of help sometimes and it is a comfort to know where I can get it.
As for the cold- I am not too excited about it. I could have really used another month of warmth!
It was our anniversary so I didn't get a chance to watch but I'm excited to go listen to them. (thank goodness for technology)
Lou's parents live at the mouth of LIttle Cottonwood Canyon. It snowed there all day Saturday, I was sad to come back to Provo and the rain.
I love the quote you included that said if you focus on relief it will always bring sociality but it you focus on sociality it won't always bring relief.
I enjoyed the meeting too. I went in the conference center a few years ago but also really enjoy the comfort of watching on the couch. I take really good notes with a pause button....
Thanks for sharing what you wrote down, amazing how even a couple of days later I am already thinking "oh ya..."
We got a little snow here too. Crazy.
oh I just love that place it makes me gasp each time...I think it is amazing, specially since we did sat down to a concert in the old tabernacle...which is lovely, but this one is over the top...and it just amazing that there were 20k women there...amazing. i am blown away by it. it is funny you mentinoed that about spt...because i usuallyl have to say...oh thank you but i am fooling around
I love your notes! The Broadcast was wonderful wasn't it?? How lucky that you were able to be there in person!
I think it's great you went to the conference center, not something you get to do very often.
I love that you took your camera. The pictures tell the perfect story.
I loved watching the broadcast, knowing that women I love across the country are all uniting together watching, learning, being uplifted by the same thing. It makes me feel connected. I watched from home while giving myself a pedicure--very relaxing, but not quite the same experience as being in the Conference Center. That choir was really amazing! I was moved. I got sad, however, when I remembered that President Faust wasn't there anymore. I miss him.
You lucky gal! I would love to experience conference in person - I never have. I love that you shared goosebumps!
Thanks for your notes - I didn't take any, and these brought some items to mind for me.
I really enjoyed this post! How amazing to actually BE at the broadcast, as opposed to watching it. Nonetheless, I was so touched by the talks and the spirit present...even in a stake center chapel.
Love your notes and the sweet reminders from the broadcast! Sounds like a wonderful night!
Very much looking forward to conference this weekend!
I'm glad you shared some highlights because I didn't get to go. Darn! I hate making Satan happy. That gives me reason to recommit!
I have been to a few things at the Conf. Center and it was amazing. That's great that you got to spend time with Michelle (and away from kids) to rejuvenate your spirit. I love those days!
The snow is freakin me out! Too soon. Where is fall?
I was so sad that I missed it, I had to work that night and I could not get the shift covered so thanks for the highlights. I bet Marc's parents live in the same condo as Matt's parents.
Love your thougghts and can't wait to read all the comments from everyone when time permits! I loved it too, and I loved knowing that eveyone that is most dear to me was watching it too....
