never a dull moment

We had book club at Collette's last night to celebrate Amy's birthday and to discuss Sarah's Quilt. (The discussion of the book was relegated to the last half hour -- 10:30 - 11:00 -- I was uncharacteristically tired and I read the book about 2 years ago, so I really didn't have that much to contribute anyway!)

We had a lovely dinner and we gave Amy the traditional birthday book that Jenn orchestrated. True to my very selective nature in photo-documentation, I neglected to capture any of that goodness -- we'll have to rely on Jill for that.

So what did I take pictures of? The crazy storm that hit! It suddenly got very dark and incredibly windy. We were all looking out the windows and marveling (we don't get violent storms very often), when Jenn exclaimed from the front room, "Your tree just fell down!"

My first thought upon hearing that shocking pronouncement was that it must have been a very tiny, young tree. Not so!

It was a fairly large tree, and it just snapped and fell over.

We were all standing on the porch checking things out (emergency vehicles were arriving) and Jill and I were basking in the cool air.

Aside from the excitement of the night, we also had good food, much laughter, and some sadness. Book club: never a dull moment!

I could not believe the micro bursts coming through here. That is a pretty big tree to just blow over- wow. I hate when I have read the book way in advance and don't have much to contribute. I feel so lame.

Wow that must have been some storm to knock over that tree! Glad it didn't hit the house or a car!

I really like Sarah's Quilt!

We discovered that our tree in the backyard also snapped. That one was actually a blessing - we were going to have it removed anyway! Fun night but I still have the darned tree in my front yard!

Micro bursts are crazy, I love to watch storms rage as long as I'm not having to drive in them. Crazy about your adult tree, what a bummer.

my favorite part is everyone seemingly hugging themselves against the cold and Jill looking quite comfortable. That would have been me too.

I loved the storms yesterday. Everyone looks so pretty on the porch.
I love book club there is something so special about getting together with a group of girls.

The cool night air looks wonderful. I love the feel of a storm in the beginning of fall. I'd be like Jill, enjoying it!

Crazy about the tree. At least they wanted the one down right?

The hugging myself was more consolation then fretting the cold- I LOVE storms. Although I am sorry about Collette's tree!

It's so sad when a tree falls victom to a storm. We had a big, unseasonal snowfall once at I stood at my mum's, remarking with her how beautiful her huge azalea bush looked, in full bloom but covered with snow, when suddenly the whole thing snapped and collapsed under the weight of the snow on it. My mum was heartbroken!

Can you use the broken branch to grow mushrooms on? Do you have those kits over there? That way, the dead branch can still give some life!

your book club is never dull is it? glad you were all safe and sounds. i am a bit terrified of storms. we have many big old trees in our community and storms are never nice to them. -carlo

Wow, that is quite a tree to come down like that! My friend had one come down in her yard last year and was inches from crashing onto the house. They couldn't get out the front door. Scary storms you've had!

We had bookclub this night too! It was rather scary watching to storm go by. It was the day I had lasik and I left to walk home with rain pouring down and wind gushing into my face so I had to hitch a ride home.

That storm was so bizarre (and apparently bad enough to cause my 7 day internet outage). Am I really that huge?
