first catch!
Max went fishing last night with the Scouts. It was his second time fishing, and he caught two rainbow trout! (both with the same worm!) He let one go and brought one home. He was so excited. It did take me off guard, though, when he walked in just holding his fish. And he's not so sure he wants to gut it, so for now it's residing in my fridge in a ziploc bag. It surprises me every time I open the door!

Go Max- that is so awesome! I can't believe he was just holding it when he walked in.
I love to eat fish, I love to go fishing, but I can not stand gutting them- it makes me gag like nothing else. Just thinking about it...blech!
Ooh, that would be a surprise when you open the fridge! Keith is a devoted fisherman, but has learned to clean his fish elsewhere, because I just can't take it. He cleaned a bunch of fish on our kitchen counter while I was pregnant with Brynlee years ago, and I thought I'd have to move out. :)
Whooo Hooo for Max. It would totally freak me out if it was in my fridge. Dead fish makes me wiggly :o)
That picture sure surprised me! Looks like he's got a great career ahead as a fisherman!
So cute - that he is not quite sure he wants to gut it, and kuddos to you, for keeping it around until he makes up his mind!
Tell him he has to gut it, it's one of the requirements for the fishing merit badge. He'll be one stinky fish closer to his Eagle!
Sounds like Uncle Ryan or Miles could come in handy about now!
Good goin, Max!
WHAT? I hate my computer. Something's wrong with it and it is almost always ridiculously slow (like worse than my dial-up) and it didn't save the comment I made last night! You know I can't stand to recomment the same thing, it just sounds so forced and unnatural. and takes too much time, so here I am leaving this very brief comment instead.
Ridiculous is a cool wounding word. Say it out loud a couple of times and really hear it. I think it is a very taken-for-granted word.
ok, i'm done now.
Wow, that would be a challenging moment for me as a mother b/c my first instinct would be, "Get that thing out of here!" Not quite the best response to an excited little fisherman. What did you do? Did you cook it? Gut it? Eww. I can hardly cut raw chicken. I hope it went well for you.
Great catch Max.
If Max decides to gut it, you should have a big barbecue to celebrate his first catch. When we used to have time to go fishing with friends we'd always have a big BBQ after we got home to eat our catches.
now that would be a shock to me, too!
i love that you are playing along though
Yeah for Max! And yeah for you letting that reside in your freezer. Nathan loves to fish so I fear when he gets to go more there will be many fish in my freezer.
I think I would also find it a little disturbing to have a whole fish in the fridge. I prefer mine filleted-- by someone else!
I confess I was logging on to get a mouse update, and steeling myself against seeing any icky mouse photodocumentation. But instead I get a dead fish! EW. Quite a surprise, to be sure.
Like most of the other commentors, I love to eat fish but can't stand the thought of gutting it, and certainly would not want one staring at me from inside a Ziplock bag every time I opened the fridge.
How exciting...I have never caught anything...I remember going with my uncle, and comming home sad...after all those hours. I do love fish too so that would be an awesome sight for me
You are quite the mom to let a whole fish hang out in your fridge!
That is great that Max had a good time.
I thought fish needed to be cleaned right away? Shows what I know, maybe that is just Jimmy's rule?
Ya I'm with robyn, "what is that doing in my fridge" would have been my reaction. I actually don't mind eating fish, but I don't want to be the one to gut it. I've done it before and well, not the most pleasant of experiences.
That's what Adam is doing right now, in Alaska fishing. I am gearing up for what he will probably smell like when he, and his cloths come home today.
Are you going to eat it or is now a fridge pet?
