dentist visits
Yesterday I took Lucas & Eva to the pediatric dentist for their 6-month cleanings and check-ups. It was great that they went together, because Lucas went first, then Eva wanted to do everything that Lucas had done. (So convenient, since she had to!)
She was not too sure about the x-rays, but eventually cooperated.
They've gone high tech -- digital x-rays, so they are ready to view immediately. Plus, some kind of laser pen that they touch to the teeth and it measures how much, if any, decay is present!
Lucas has 3 new cavities. I am not sure how 3 new cavities can develop in just 6 months, but it has happened to me before as well. They proposed we come back today to do fillings -- it sounded like a good idea to me to just get it over with, but Lucas felt otherwise.
He used to be an extremely difficult patient. When he was 5, they had to completely put him out to do some fillings and sealants. But today he was very brave. He had tears in his eyes when we arrived, but he walked back without me. Having the Game Cube to play during the procedure helps a great deal!
For reasons unknown to me, the air conditioning is not working in the office. It wasn't such a big deal yesterday when we were there for 45 minutes early in the morning. Today, however, we were there from 10:00 - 1:00 (don't ask) and I was getting fairly grouchy. Fortunately, Eva kept herself entertained by riding the rocking horse, bringing out every book in the toy closet, and building towers out of Mega Blocks.
I don't know how it is possible that we were there for so long and they only managed to do 2 of the 3 fillings, but they did. They proposed that we come back tomorrow to finish up, and this time I declined for both my sake and Lucas's! Here's hoping they have the A/C fixed before we go back next week...

I love the digital x-rays and all the fancy smancy stuff they have. Movies while you get fillings- why not?
I need to take Mya in next week for a filling and I am not sure how that will go. Hoping I can just hold her like I did while they did the cleaning and it will go just as well. Lucas sure is a cutie.
3 hours with a toddler in the waiting room!?!?
Wow! 3 hours to only fill 2 of the cavities?? I am amazed you all survived!
I love the dentist, the smells, the whole experience but 3 hours and no A/C, that's crazy.
I feel like I check your blog every day but then this morning I check and there are three postings, I'm losing my mind.
Who is your dentist? I like mine but he's not too good with the kids. I"d love to have the kids go to a pediatric dentist.
Eva's face is so cute.
3 hours that's crazy!
That picture of Eva cracks me up! Good thing she likes to "follow Lucas." Three hours, no A/C? Sounds like Hell to me.
I get so antsy sitting there. And with no ac you can be sure I would have been close to a meltdown! (no pun intended!)
Love the look on her face with the x-ray apron.
I believe the dentist is a version of the devil himself- I understand Lucas' tears and share my own for your experience!
wait, the dentist and no a/c? that is just too much to ask of a person!
wow...

Speaking as one familiar with dentists (well, one anyway), I am truly shocked and horrified that you were there for that long and only got 2 fillings out of the deal! That's not right!!
No air conditioning and a 3 hour visit?! That's just unacceptable. Really.
