who knew?

(OR, a summary of this week in question form)

Who knew...

that I could be 36 and still not be able to keep myself from getting fried at 7Peaks?

that I would ever find a reason to dislike our great water pressure? (sunburn + shower = ouch!)

that Jill's pebble ice would keep Eva happy -- and hydrated -- for a good long time? (Seriously? Is that the secret to a successful day at 7Peaks??)

that a phone call from my grandma could get me laughing like I haven't since Jessie left?

that a book with this cover would be on my bedside table? (Grandma recommended it!)

that Lucas would take to sleeping in until 9:00 or 9:30? School starting is going to be a big adjustment.

that Jessie's dear friend is now my friend as well? (Thanks for playing, Hannah!)

that a dog could get a stick jammed across the roof of his mouth, requiring immediate -- although minor -- canine surgery?

that my kids, who have to be persuaded to play outside in the summer, would happily play at the park for 4 hours with their cousins?

that Eva would be having nightmares already? I went in the other night when she was crying, and she sat up and said, "There's no snakes!" No, indeed there are no snakes in her room.

that I would be going to rent a cello for Max? His first lesson is tomorrow morning.

that Marc would become the clean kitchen Nazi? (Hooray!!)

that life does in fact go on now that Jessie has moved away? I hate it, but it looks like maybe I will make it through this. Talking to her every day helps a lot! (But I won't be watching any movies with sisters again any time soon...)

Love this post Michelle! Can you get Eva pebble ice everyday? Two year olds need all the help they can get! I hope your sunburn eases up soon, I hate the itchy pain that they give off. So glad you can talk to Jessie everyday, phone time will be important!

Is that your dog? The poor little thing!

While I think, I just commented on Jill's blog with a recommendation for a website that Erin enjoys. It's called poissonrouge.com and is French/English. It's quite basic and easy - lots of bits of games with no instructions, so the child has to work it all out for him/herself. Thought I'd mention it to you for the French link?

So glad your wound from Jessie's departure is 'scabbing over', so to speak!

Hey, I've read that book!

Your burn looks extremely painful. Maybe you should get some more pebble ice and fill the bathtub with it!

Pebble ice is available at Sonic all day, every day.

I loved this post. And, while it's not my sister who left, I do have a best friend leaving me this week. It's not quite so bad, but I can definitely imagine how not fun this week has been. Can you imagine what we do without phones and the Internet? If we had to wait for snail mail? There's one thing for which to be grateful!

Good luck with the sunburn. I'm a fan of Solarcaine spray. Good stuff!

Glad to hear you are "managing" your sister's move. Thank goodness for phones--though it's not quite the same.
Sonic is one of THE best places on earth--especially in the summer!

I wondered about your sunburning but resisted saying anything in my attempts to give up control of the world. Sorry.

I love the post. It sounds like things have been busy at your house. How fun for Max to play the cello and hooray for Lucas sleeping in (at least for a couple of more weeks).

I got a sunburn yesterday too...ouch is right!
OOOH the Cello, very cool!

Just looking at your picture makes me hurt--especially with the thought of hard water pressure in the shower! Glad to hear that life is going on. Glad to hear, too, that Max gets to take cello lessons. John recently swapped his cello for an electric guitar. I know he would have enjoyed the cello more if he could have had private lessons. He does feel pretty cool, however, with his new guitar.

I too am learning that life goes on with Jessie far away. I'm glad you've kept so busy. It's nice that you and Hannah are becoming friends that probably helps a lot.
Your sunburn looks all too painful hopefully it doesn't hurt for too long.
Lucas sleeping till 9:00 or 9:30 wow he must be turing into one of my kids :)

How in the world did you manage to get so sun-burned at Seven Peaks? That looks awful, I'm sorry you're ailing. I can imagine how terribly that must hurt under your turbo water pressure, perhaps a sponge bath is in order, with a Noxema coating after.

Hope you are doing ok without Jessie. It's great that you guys are so close and get along so well. I am sure you'll make it through!

Can't believe that sunburn or the canine surgery... how much did that cost?!

I hear you! At almost 35, I still can get a pretty decent sunburn, too. I feel really foolish when I do, too, because really, I should know better. Alove vera and a nice long nap are what you need!

Michelle, my heart hurt when I read about your sister moving. I'm so sorry. 7 years ago, I was the sister moving away ... it's just hard, no way around it. I wish you many happy reunions and a trip or two out to lovely NC, and most of all, I hope you live near each other again some happy day.

Oh, and sorry about your dog, too! Darn those sticks! But what a handsome pooch!

This is a great post! Today was so nice for us- I can't wait to see your finished project.

Listening to you laugh was so uplifting, I love your laugh and I am so glad your grandma called while I was there :)

Who knew indeed that our friendship would come to be as it has? So great.

I love the way you posted this. Such an interesting way to portray your week.

Your poor skin! I hope you've got plenty of aloe vera!

So sad about the dog.

The pebble ice idea is great. Maybe it will work a second time?

Oh, I definitely think pebble ice is the key to happiness!

How did the cello lesson go? Avery starts up again next week.

Your sunburn looks ouch. I think I've heard the tannic acid in tea helps. I hope it is soothed soon!

So many things going on in your world. But at least lots of positive and only a few sad. Your poor dog. Ouch.

Hope you recover from your sunburn soon. That looks pretty painful.

Good luck with Cello lessons!

Ouch on the sunburn. I'm rather pale-skinned so I know that if I don't slather on the sunblock I'm toast.

Cello lessons! That is so cool. I started playing the cello when I was 10. Go here on my blog: http://lindsaydaniel.blogspot.com/2007/06/pachelbel-rant.html
to see a very funny youtube video.
