Max left for a Scout camp-out today. He was supposed to leave yesterday morning, but since he is still limping from his bizarre Seven Peaks foot injury, he couldn't do the hike and had to join them this afternoon. He was nervous that he wouldn't enjoy the experience. I do think he'll have a good time, but who are we kidding? Marc and I are not campers, so who knows if he paid any attention to our attempts at reassurance...
Marc went to work and won't be home until late because tonight is his movie group night. This left just Lucas, Eva and I.
The kids were so patient while I was on the phone -- for nearly 2 hours -- trying to get to the bottom of the problems we are having with our phone (namely, we have no service). I had told them we would go to the park and play when I got off the phone. None of us knew they would have to wait so very long. By the time I hung up (with the problem still largely unresolved), I was so irritated I felt like I was getting an ulcer! I needed to go play as much as the kids did.
Here's the funny thing: I almost didn't take my camera, because both of the kids were ragamuffins today, and I thought I might not want to document it too much (I'm so prejudiced against them that way!). Plus, I've taken photos of them before at this park, so I figured I might not really have anything new to shoot. Needless to say, I'm so glad I brought it along! I ended up taking 85 pictures, and that of course made the outing so much more fun for me.
We all had fun playing on the swings:
They wore themselves out, so we came home, had dinner, read stories, and they went right to bed!

woohoo...first to comment and say something. well those pictures sure are fun, and it is so true when you see things with new eyes...finally had access to internet and feel alive again...somewhat, still a gypsy and a bit of a vagabond
Glad you took your camera! It is usually when I think I don't want to take it and I end up taking it that I am so glad I did. How exciting to have the three of you around- that would feel so out of balance though. Not having Linc here some nights after having him here all summer feels out of place.
these pictures are soooo refreshing!! it is so much fun to look at the ordinary through a different lens.
glad you guys got to salvage your day!
super, super cute photos! I am SO loving the self-portraits!!
Sorry about your phone- I was just blogging with my sister about the woes of all repairs. And my brother and I were joking that being home owners makes us want to go back to being renters- always a problem that needs money, attention and time!
How much fun! I always love it when it's just a couple of us and either mom or dad--it's so much fun! And the kids going straight to bed--score!
Whenever I don't take my camera, I always end up wishing I would have... luckily I have been remembering the phone takes pictures lately. I never forget my phone!
You have camera skills. Your pictures are fabulous....
I'm sorry you're going through that torture of having to deal with telephone ppl. It appears to be a symptom of the modern age, to waste precious hours sitting on the phone, pressing buttons and going on 'hold'. I hope it gets sorted soon.
The photos in the park are really good. I love the manhole cover pic. Is that what it is? I love that one anyway!
LOVED the photos, it is so great that you guys enjoyed eachother so much and that you turned a sour mood (due to said phonecall) sweet!!
what a fun trip to the park. You're such a good mom.
The swing pic would be so cute bown up and framed for a child's nursery!
Oops, I mean "blown." Griffin is on my lap as I type.
You're lucky Max has a scout camp to go to--our ward didn't even take the scouts on a campout this year, and I'm afraid John is losing interest in Scouts alltogether. And as you said, I'm not exactly a camping enthusiast myself...
Looks like a fun day! Love the park photos! - I tend to forget my camera A LOT! I need to just purchase an cheap one and keep it in the car!
Always a bonus when the littles are tired from a fun day! Hope you son has a good time at camp!
I'm so glad you took your camera! You got some great pictures. Coming from another non-camper, I hope Max enjoys the camping experience. I would be nervous, too! Hope you get your phone situation resolved soon. 2 hours on the phone and no resolution? That would make me crazy!
I'm so glad you took your camera with you, ragamuffin status or not, it's always good to have the option. Your pictures turned out great, I love all the playground shots and self-portraits.
Those are some great pictures, you have a wonderful eye.
