groggy

Eva woke me up at 3:30 this morning because she couldn't find her binkie. I lay awake, tossing and turning, unable to get back to sleep. (It's my curse.) Lucas called out to me at 5:00, and when I went into his room, he said he felt sick. He threw up once, lay on the couch for awhile, then returned to his bed and slept until almost 9:00. (While he was being sick, he said forlornly that he didn't want to miss going to Seven Peaks! At least he has his priorities in order.)

Eva woke up for good at 6:30, so even though I didn't get up for the day until then, I had been awake since 3:30 and I was not in a good way. Fortunately, Marc didn't have any morning appointments, so I was able to go back to bed for a couple of hours before he went to work. Still, I have been feeling groggy and just not quite right all day.

Lucas was parked on the couch pretty much all day. He hasn't been sick again, but he has a fever and no appetite. How I wish I could get to the bottom of the random fevers in our family. But if anyone in our family has to be sick, I'm glad it's Lucas (sorry, Lucas!). He's the best patient. As long as he has a blanket to cuddle with, a cold washcloth for his forehead, the remote control, and a drink, he's good to go. He never complains, and he even summons the energy to reassure Eva that he's okay and will be better soon. Jill took Max to Seven Peaks with her kids, and brought Lucas a slushie from Sonic. What a treat!

Marc made monster cookies last night, and it just cracked me up to see Eva eating one! It makes them look even huger than they are. (she can only eat about 1/3 of one -- wish I could say the same...)

On Saturday, Marc helped me to sort through my cookbooks. About a week ago, I had to make room for 2 new cookbooks. I could only force myself to pull out 2 from the cupboard to make room. But with Marc's help, we filled almost 2 boxes! (I had been using another shelf in an adjacent cupboard as well.) He is so much better at this purging thing than I am, and apparently if we do it together, I'm a little better too! I have a renewed excitement for my cookbooks and want to use them more (I get in recipe ruts). And the best part is, I even have a little room to grow if I find a new cookbook I really want!

The other day, I took a bunch of pictures of Eva while she was eating some noodles. This is the new face I get when I ask her to smile for a picture!

But, if I'm patient, I might get one like this:
...or even like this:
What a goofball. (I loaded the photos today and she looked at them with me. Every time I clicked on a new one, she would say, "That's a cute one!" Oh, to have the self-confidence of a 2-year-old.)

Eva is so darn cute! That cheesy grin cracks me up. I, too, am trying to get out of a recipe/dinner rut. Thanks to Rachel Ray's Express Lane Meals I've had a few successes, like Chicken with Scallion-Lime Sauce and Fillets of Sole Francese and Lemon-Basil Pasta (my kids even liked this one!). Of course, more often than not--especially in the heat of the summer--we have "Dumb Dinner Night," which consists of either cold cereal or possibly popcorn and apples.

I hope Lucas gets to feeling better soon. Eva is such a cutie! I love the cookie picture you should enter that one in a contest somewhere. And all the cute smile ones, adorable:)

LOVE the photos of your Eva at the bottom.

What is up with you not being able to go back to sleep? That is a curse for sure. Maybe you need to put earplugs and an eye mask on, a little sensory deprivation might help.

Your cookbook cupboard is so pleasing, this purging thing is fabulous. I'm excited for you.

Those picture of Eva are darling, she's such a cutie and such a character. That cookie is hilariously huge.

I'm so jealous of how on board your hubby is with the whole "flying" and purging thing, it's so much easier when you have someone to help keep you motivated and help with the work! Hope you have a better day tomorrow and that Lucas feels better.

Darling pictures. Eva is such a doll. It was fun to play at Mya's party with you guys.
Hope Lucas starts to feel better and I hope you do too.

I am seriously impressed by your cook book collection. You must be a heckuva good cook! And don't you love how kids will change the way they smile for photos? Jakob has taken to tilting his head to the side and coyly smiling up at me - what in the world is that?

I know what you mean about the confidence. I say that about Luci all the time, at least she has no self-esteem problems!
I get in recipe ruts big time. I basically become a crock pot cooker when I have to work out of the home a few days in a row. Maybe I should go through my cookbooks and do a little purging as well in hopes of finding something different to try.

I love cookbooks as well, but don't have near the collection you have. It must be in my gene pool. When my grandmother passed away, we found hundreds of cookbooks. Anytime she travelled, her souvenir of choice was always a cookbook.

That cookie looked incredible. And that Eva is such a cutie!

I hate not getting back to sleep. What a bummer.

Eva is so adorable. I look her little crooked smile.

I am so impressed with the purging. Your shelf looks great, but it is hard to part with stuff. congrats!

Eva is adorable! I love the different smiles!

I am intrigued with all your cookbooks. Do you have a favorite? or several favorites?

Hope Lucas feels better soon!

Michelle, you should've added your FlyLady tag to this post, as that's a great achievement with the cookbooks!

I'm sure when you achieve a 'Jedi-level' of FlyLady discipleship you will sleep like a log, knowing that everything is tickety-boo.

Eva with that cookie is priceless! Her smile is perfect in all 3!

I hate not getting back to sleep. I get so annoyed with myself I start working against myself. So not fun. Hope last night was better!

Those pictures of Eva are hilarious! She reminds me of Emily when she was little--such a poser!

We're always talking about PQ's confidence here, too. Don't you just hope they can hold onto that as they grow older? Eva's pictures are darling!

Your cookbook shelf looks so inviting. I don't have a good place for my cookbooks in this house, and they are stacked on top of each other in a cupboard, and I've found that it's very hard to want to dig in there to find something new to make.

I hope Lucas feels better soon.

You purge and I feel further trapped in chaos right now...what is up with that? Congrats on the recipe purge, that has got to feel good. Eva is just so damn cute- those shots are great. The cookie one is esp cute too- I wonder if I had a cookie that was that big compared to my hand if I could finish it...

My husband is way better at purging them me also. When I can get him to help me the house gets whipped back into shape.

Your cookbook shelf is unbelievabe. How nice to actually have room for more! Purging together is definitely better.

The sleeping at your house sounds rough. I would be so grouchy. Maybe you should serve Nyquil with dinner. My aunt used to.

Back from the painting marathon and ready to go back to work! I'm loving the fly theory. I'll check it out this weekend.

Oh, I feel your pain! I was up at 3:30-5am rubbing Hunter's little legs and arms! I need my sleep!!! I hope that your little is feeling better!
I am loving the shiny sink. I have to have a clean sink daily - but i haven't thought of shining it at night. hmmm, I might have a problem now!
Looks like a great cook book shelf! I love to read cook books!
Loving the MONSTER cookie. Is it a great recipe you might want to post? ;-)

We are going through the same vomit/fever routine at our house!! Sheesh, you'd think it was January!

I'm so happy to hear about your fly lady conversion and all the organization going on at your house, it is such a fulfilling task. And even better when your other half is gung-ho (sp?) about it.

Hope the bug leaves your family be soon.

I love your cook book shelf, what fun. The kitchen is the best room in the house and cook books is one of the reasons, they just speak comfort, good time, relaxing, satisfied, fulfilled, tradition, mouth watering and love.

Eva is such a beauty.

I always find myself in food ruts, arg!
