After spending nearly 3 hours yesterday trying to get our new VOIP phone set up, I managed somehow to disconnect our internet, effectively depriving myself of both phone and internet service! I threw up my hands in frustration and decided I needed to take a break from cables, powerfully unhelpful customer support, and tech manuals, but I still managed to try to check my email about 10 times...
Hannah and her girls came over yesterday. It wasn't our best day (the kids were needier than usual), but it was a nice distraction. She brought art supplies and made a pom pom creature with Eva and Mya. Eva's never done that before, and she was in heaven. She has been showing off her "sheep" to everyone in sight.
Fortunately, Marc came home, and between the two of us, we managed to finally get everything up and running. After three days of no phone service, it started to ring again! And, more importantly, we can now read blogs, email, and google things to our hearts' content. Whew.....
Eva has now joined the ranks of computer users in our family. I don't know what possessed me to play an online toddler alphabet game with her one day, because of course now it has to be part of our daily routine. Thankfully, she can be placated with going through only 5 or 6 letters of the alphabet... for now.
She wants to do it all herself -- which would be fine with me! -- but she can't maneuver the mouse where she wants it to go. But she has to do the clicking.
Nothing makes Eva happier than helping me in the kitchen. It takes longer, but hey, at least it's something we both enjoy! This morning we made our specialty: banana chocolate chip muffins. She dumps in all the ingredients that I measure and helps with the stirring.
Today she insisted on helping with the filling of the tins as well. She wanted to use my silicone hot pad to take them out of the oven, but of course I had to draw the line there.
I took Lucas to get his before-school haircut today. His hair doesn't grow as fast as Max's, and therefore he doesn't need it cut as frequently. But every now and then, it sneaks up on me and then we have to go get it cut RIGHT AWAY. Eva, of course, wanted to get her hair cut again as well! But she had to content herself with walking around, looking at herself in mirrors, and chanting, "I want a lollipop!" endlessly.
We saw these dragonfruit at the grocery store. Anyone ever eaten one? I was definitely intrigued by them, and Lucas thought we should buy some. Then I noticed that they were $9.99 apiece!! They're lovely, though, aren't they?
I got my order from Children's Place. They were having a great sale on jeans, so I stocked up for all three kids. Since Eva hasn't had a pair of jeans that fits since May or so, I was enjoying looking at her in her jeans today -- and she was lounging on the steps with her hand in her pocket...
Max came home from his campout this afternoon. He had a great time! He enjoyed the food (mostly), he slept well, his rain poncho kept him dry when it poured, and he even ate fresh-caught trout -- and liked it!
Lucas was, as expected, sad and lonely while Max was gone. He prayed for him every night to have a good time and come home safely. We're all glad he's back.

finally got a little internet access and had to comment on those delicious muffins that alf and i are watering just about right now...it is 2 am in the morning and we had a stinky little skiny chicken at 2 pm so we are really starving and ravenous for some tasty things...so there we just came back from borne ultimatium second time for me and first for alf. those fruits look lovely but it better taste good for a 10 buck-bite
Not the best day camp yet- but I still enjoyed the company as usual. We should have cut our losses and just made more pompom animals.
Mya loves working in the kitchen with me as well and I like it most days. It takes patience but I tell myself I am training a companion for future years.
$10 fruit? I am all about eating 5 a day but would just be able to look at those as well. They look so pleasing. I have never had one- are they good?
Glad Max is back and had a good time. Lucas was a pretty sad sight on Friday with his best buddy gone.
How is Vonage treating you so far? After all the woes I hope the quality is great on your Mac.
Eva in the kitchen - how sweet. Griffin and I have some of our best times while baking. It's like his time to "shine," since he doesn't get much time like that with Luci around. She tends to steal his thunder, you know?!
Nothing like stocking up on jeans. Every year a friend of mine gives me all of her son's old jeans for Griffin. Last time she passed on 9 pairs and they were all in great condition since there were so many. I like the Gap jeans on Griffin best but I'll take whatever is passed down free!
Luci finally got her back to school hair trim last night, only 2 weeks into the school year. This was my 3rd try as the Hair Shack has been packed with kids needing to do the same.
I have never even heard of dragonfruit, much less seen one. Where are they grown?
I think that I have only commented once on your blog. Shame on me. I've read it enough times that I should have responded more. I actually got you a birthday present that I was going to send you--I still have it sitting in the envelope. I even got your address from Kristi. Obviously, my dilatory tendencies haven't changed since our days at BYU! I'll put it in the mail tomorrow! Just a little late.
After reading about your dragon fruit experience I knew that I had to comment! They are very tasty and very unusual. I don't know if you've seen the inside but they are white with tiny black seeds and taste like a cross between a melon and a kiwi. I saw and tried them for the first time in Vietnam last year. They are very popular there and can be found all over the country when they are in season. It's amazing that you have them at your grocery store. I've only seen them once in the states.
I let my boys play on the computer last year when I got them a game but they so interfered with my addiction...er...hobby, that I nipped that in the bud. After a few weeks, they stopped asking:) Good luck finding a cord that works!
I'm impressed with all you're getting done.
My lil guy likes to bake -of course because he LOVES to eat the treats! He really wanted to make blueberry muffins one sunday. He was neat & tidy (he was 8)and took his time filling the muffin cups.
The baking aroma was heavenly. When we took them out, he didn't want one. He just wanted to make them, not eat them!! We took them to grandma's house ;) & from then on we bake cookies or brownies -his sugary faves!! ciao
have you let her try the mouse? ethan picked it up in about two hours of wanting to play his games and not mine!
the dragonfruit are beautiful!
Your computer and phone woes sound so frustrating. I know exactly what you mean about knowing they're not working, but still trying to check email over and over again. I do that every time the power goes out and can't figure out why I keep trying to turn on the lights.
That fruit is bizarre, I've never heard of it. Is it an aphrodisiac or something? $10, I think not.
Eva look so cute with her hand in her jeans pocket, she's always styling.
We ate a lot of dragon fruit when we were in Singapore. It wasn't $9.99 a piece there though. They had the best and most beautiful fruit there.
Must be exciting with the boys going back to school so soon. I wish them luck.
Whew! You did an amazing amount of things! Isn't it great?! I was also just reading your post about sending Max to junior high. It is always an adventure, for parents as well as students, to be the first to go to the new school. But from now on, it will be old hat, and Max will be able to reassure his siblings that it isn't as bad as it sounds. I will be sending another daughter to the high school this year. She is both excited and nervous. Poor thing.
I love Children's place. It is where I buy all of my smallest daughter's jeans. The others are too big. Bummer. Eva looks so adorable.
My kids like to cook in the kitchen, but I can't take it when they try to help me. Usually I help them cook their own stuff. It just works better for me.
Hey, or course I understand the whole frustration with the mouse thing! I have become quite okay with it and I'm sure it won't take Eva long as well! So cute, all the photos.
Love the updates! Thank heavens the phone is back. Max had filled me in via email.
I LOVE that picture of Eva! I wish we lived closer to get to know her better. I'm going to try Children's Place jeans for Sarah--I have the hardest time find the right fit for her. Glad Max made it back from camp okay.
I'm glad Max enjoyed camp. Always a double relief when they're home and happy.
I have never seen dragon fruit before. They are so artichoke-like. What a perfect name for them. At 9.99, they will just have to remain a mystery for me.
Eva is too cute in her jeans. We've had some cool days, and I put PQ in jeans yesterday to go up to Mt. Hood, and it was cracking me up to see her in them again.
Eva is getting so big and is such a doll. Olivia loves to help me in the kitchen too and it's PAINFUL to let her. I know I should be more patient but sometimes you just want to throw the ingredients in and get on with it, you know? I can't deny her, however, b/c she just loves it. Those muffins look great. Where is the recipe? C'mon, I'm drooling!
I haven't had dragonfruit, don't know much about it. Where is it grown? I thought Thailand had all the funky fruits. Guess not!
Congrats on getting hooked up to the rest of the world again. I hate being disconnected from the internet, but phone too? That would kill me.
Those pictures of Eva are SO cute!
I had dragonfruit in Vietnam and it is really yummy. But I wouldn't pay ten dollars for the experience.
Isn't it amazing how we all become so addicted and attached to technology? Hard to live without it. I dread power outages. What will I do with myself!?
Glad that your little came home safe and HAPPY from camp! I always worry the entire time! - I have never seen/heard of dragon fruit. How do you think one eats such a lovely? $10 for a piece of fruit? I find that totally interesting! YAHOO for the internet and phone now up and running. I would miss my internet - but not my phone ringing all the time!
