I took Max to get his haircut yesterday in preparation for starting jr. high -- in 9 days! We went to the same woman who cuts my hair, since she is big into the thinning shears, and no one else uses them enough on us. During Max's haircut, Eva kept saying that she wanted a haircut too. I had been thinking about getting her a trim, so we went for it -- the first haircut.I didn't know what to expect, since the boys were not too keen on haircuts the first few times and I had to hold them on my lap. Eva, however, was thrilled with the entire process.
She got to hold the big fluffy brush and enjoyed watching the whole process in the mirror.
She called the velcro rollers "flashlights".
She got to choose some barrettes to wear home -- I haven't seen ones like this since I was little! It was an agonizing decision.
For the rest of the day, she referred to herself as "cute little girl". No worries here about her self-image!In the afternoon, we went to Marc's cousin's house for a party. His other cousin's family was visiting from Manhattan and had a get-together to see everyone at once. (Marc couldn't come because he was photographing a wedding, and I felt a little strange going without him. I know there was no reason to be nervous, but I am just so bad in big groups.) It was held at the home we call "the villa" because it is modeled after an Italian villa.
It is gorgeous, and the backyard is not to be believed. I was trying to estimate how big the property is, but I'm not very good at that sort of thing. All I know is it's over an acre, it has a pool that calls to mind a fancy spa, a hot tub, a playground, and the whole thing is beautifully landscaped.
The kids had a blast. I hadn't brought my suit, so I spent most of my time poolside, making sure Eva was okay in her floatie and that her brothers were on hand in case she needed them. I did get to talk to the adults in snatches here and there, and I had a bowl of ice-cold watermelon that helped to keep me refreshed in the terrible heat. I guess the kids had the right idea!We were all worn out, so it was nice to come home, make grilled cheese sandwiches, and put the kids to bed. Marc came home soon afterward and was exhausted as well, so we went to bed early and read. Ahhhhhhh.

Eva is looking so grown up in those barber shop photos. What a gal! I can't believe you have a child in Junior High! It is such a frighteningly unsure time of life, I'm sure yours will thrive, though!

It's hard to believe that house is even in Utah, it's beautiful. How fun for the kids to get to go swimming some place like that (not so much for you though).
Max's hair looks great, I always love it when Sharolyn cuts Landon's hair as well, it's the real deal. It's so cute that Eva wanted her hair done too. I'm surprised she sat there for all of that, but the allure of being a cute little girl was probably too great.
What a doll! I can't believe Eva let her style it too. My Luci still has a tantrum when I take her in for a trim and the spray bottle and scissors come out.
Eva looks like she had a blast in the beauty chair! The first of many days of pampering??!!

What an entertaining account! The photos of the kids are soooooo adorable and the visual description made me feel like I was right there! I found the children's bows from my bow-zone boxes! I have a pleasant feeling that Eva might be more interested in them than Bella!
And, I LOVE Max's hair! Too cool for words and perfect for Jr. High!

Eva looks beautiful. I have those same clips for Kira, I bought them at Target, they reminded me of my childhood.

I grew up using those barrets. So cute. I probably would be a bit nervous with out my hubby to. Glad you ended up having a good time (the house looks amazing).

That house does look very special. They'd probably be mortified, though, that you've called their expansive grounds a 'back yard'! Oops!
I was in your shoes last year with C going into 7th. She makes it easy on me though because she LOVES school - her school! Fun

We just spent the weekend in Vail at a friend's home that I now call Charleston in the mountains--it was gorgeous, and fun to stay in--if only for a few days.
