Thursday was just a crazy day.
We started with Max's cello lesson in the morning (he's still working on positioning the instrument and his hands correctly -- this week he is also practicing plucking).
Then we went to the junior high to re-register Max, since they withdrew my boys completely from the district when I pulled them out early to go to Paris. Fortunately, he was able to get all of the classes he originally registered for. Just being there and walking around in the junior high was freaking me out big time. He's going to have a locker! And many different teachers! He's going to be in the orchestra and learning French! The cafeteria looks almost like a food court! There were some pretty rough-looking boys skulking about! I don't know about him, but I know I am definitely not ready for this.
We came home to grab a bite to eat, then headed to the doctor's office. Max hurt his foot somehow when he went to Seven Peaks with Jill on Monday. Since he was still limping, I thought we had better it get checked out, especially since he is supposed to go on a 4-day Scout camping trip next week!
The doctor sent us over to the hospital to get an x-ray. It was way past Eva's naptime at this point, and she was going to great lengths to keep herself awake (it's one of her special talents). To this end, she was climbing up and down on all the chairs in the waiting room, a well as spinning in circles and running around, bent over, flapping her arms and saying, "I'm a bird! I'm a bird!" Riiiight.
It turns out that Max did not break his foot again. They think it's either a sprain or a tear in the ligament that wraps around to the underside of the foot. In any case, he's got it wrapped in an Ace bandage and is limping around. It's not looking too good for the big hike next week.
After coming home and putting Eva down for a nap, I went to the elementary school to re-register Lucas. (thank goodness for being able to leave her at home with the boys!)
When I got back home, I made spinach dip to take to book club and helped Max to get ready to attend a Court of Honor at Scouts. I could not have been happier to leave for book club!
We had our usual great evening of re-connecting, eating, laughing, and generally catching up. (We didn't actually discuss a book this time, so I guess it was more like chat club, but whatever.) And I was ever so excited that Collette made us these Christmas planning books!
I have been thinking ever since last December that I need to make detailed plans to make this Christmas a good one. Basically, I want it to be the exact opposite of Christmas season 2006, which was stressful, exhausting, and no fun at all. Now I can get started on the planning! Be sure to send any great ideas my way.
Thankfully, Friday was much more laid-back. We did a couple of errands in the morning, then hung out at home the rest of the day (whew!). Whitney was still feeling sick, so we had to forego Creative Friday. Landon came over to save the day by playing with Lucas, who I think would have had a little breakdown if we had to call the whole thing off!
I read for awhile and had a little nap when Eva was napping. The only productive thing I did all day was clean off my dresser -- but it was quite a project! The pleasing results:
We ended with popsicles and a bath.
When all the kids were in bed, Marc and I sprawled out and watched TV, me with my ice packs, as usual. (My mom says that would be torture for her, but for me it's the best part of every day!)

I can't believe Max is going to Jr. High, that freaks me out too. I loved Jr. High though so I take comfort in that, there are so many exciting classes, vending machines (ha), friends and freedom that comes with it so hopefully he'll love it.
I'm glad his foot isn't broken, and am not sure whether to hope he can go on the big hike or not.
Cleaning off your dresser is a huge accomplishment, just looking at is like a pleasing exhale for me. Nice job!
Thanks for having Landon over on his birthday, he would have been crushed if Creative Friday was totally canceled.
What a bind having to re-register your children for their schools! All because of Paris? *rolls eyes*
What a nail-biting wait, too, over his foot!
But it was success, all-round, no? Cleaning and naps and TV sound like great achievements to me!
I wonder if Collette knows there is a market for those Christmas planning books - I need one!!
I noticed your plates on the wall - love them! I collect antique dessert plates but so far they are just sitting in by cabinets.
Thursday was crazy for you my goodness. I'm glad that Max's foot isn't broken.
Your dresser looks beautiful
and dang that Popsicle looks so good!
My my what a busy day you've had! I would exhausted - all that running around. I absolutely love the christmas planning book - does she sell them? I would love to know - I'm never any good at planning Christmas and usually send my gifts in December. So great that your son is taking cello lessons! Have a great sunday!
That's a busy couple of days! Jr. high freaks me out, too! Here we have 6-8 in middle school, so Brynlee just has one more year of elementary. It's more than I can think about.
Good that his foot isn't broken, but ouch anyway! Is he going to be okay if he misses the hike?
Your dresser looks like something out of a magazine. So beautiful! Definitely well worth the effort.
That Christmas planning book is brilliant. I told Keith just the other day that I want the holidays to be so different this year. We just survived them last year, and that wasn't a fun feeling.
I just saw an awsome Christmas planning book at the New York Gift show today!!! I thought of you and knew that you could make one WAY cuter, but thought you would love the idea, so I ordered one! It is a GREAT idea! I'm sure your's is cool, tell me the tabs and the layout! Awfully cute photos. Glad you had a fun night after all that!
I have been thinking about Christmas this last week as well- I usually start to in August- and how to make it stress free. The book from Collette is a great idea!
Max is such a cutie- junior high is going to be so awesome. I am with Jill, I loved it and hopefully he will too.
Maybe that's what I need--a Christmas planning book. I'm already feeling a little stressed about Christmas, which sounds silly, but I know if I don't get a jump on it now it will sneak up and clobber me over the head, leaving me dazed, confused, and somewhat nauseated.
Jr. High is quite the adventure. I think that John feels sort of cool now that he's an eighth grader. The scary thing for me about that is that means he'll be in HIGH SCHOOL next year--eeek! How can it be?
