Today was the day -- Max's first day of junior high. I am so glad they have the 7th graders come a day early. They had a welcome assembly, student council members were on hand to give directions to lost-looking students, they went to all 8 of their classes and met their teachers, and then they had games and popsicles outside. All with the added benefit of having fewer students in the halls and none of those intimidating upper-classmen.
Tomorrow the 7th graders get the day off and then they return on Wednesday to the full jr. high experience. Max had a great day. He didn't seem to have much difficulty getting up and ready to leave by 7:30 -- I hope that lasts. Between the two elementary schools he has attended and ward members, he said he knew several people in each of his classes. He didn't have any locker troubles (anyone else ever have nightmares about being in school and not being able to open your locker?). He genuinely seemed to enjoy his first day. Hooray!
It seems strange that my big 7th grader has a 2-year old sister. (Who missed him very much while he was away at school and kept saying, "Max is coming right back!".)
Marc gave the boys their traditional father's blessings last night. I love the way he seems to says the very things I have weighing on my mind in his blessings. I love the way the boys look relieved and comforted afterwards -- I am sure it reduces their nervousness about starting the new school year.
After Max and Lucas had their blessings, Eva hopped into their spot and said, "it's my turn, Daddy!". So Marc gave her a little blessing, too. She actually kept her arms folded and eyes closed throughout. It was the sweetest thing.
Lucas was mighty bored today with Max gone. I think it helped him to be ready to go to school tomorrow! We made cookies for Max, we dug out his old piano books and practiced, and we went to meet his new teacher. (I don't know what I was thinking when I didn't take a photo of them together!)
Marc's parents came over to take us out to dinner. The kids are always thrilled to see Grandma & Grandpa, but Eva was in heaven. When she was finished eating, she sat on Grandma's lap and got her back tickled. (oh, I have such sweet memories of doing the same thing with my grandma!)
Even better, she was able to commandeer Grandma in her bedroom for some playtime, and talk with Grandma on the phone, even though they were right next to each other!
Look what a sweet treat awaited me in the mailbox tonight! Jessie sent me some Heidi Swapp gigundo photo corners, pink polka dot brads, Special Handling stickers, a very fun assortment of ribbon, and, most exciting of all... a circle journal!! We talked before she left about making circle journals to send back and forth to each other, but of course I kind of forgot about it, and Jessie managed to already make the cutest one and write in it and send it to me. So fun! Now I have to get on the ball...

What a full day for you guys! I'm glad Max had a good day- I was sure nervous when I started middle school! Of course, I didn't know anyone and they didn't start with (for me) 6th grade day.
I LOVE Eva's morning hair :)
and I am just sick with delight and envy over your sister circle journal- I've thought of it before but never gotten around to it and of course, it would never come out as cute as Jessie's!
A circle journal is a grand idea! THAT will be a coveted treasure down the road.
I'm glad Max had a good first day! Junior high was so scary for me and I never could seem to get my locker open.
Yea for a wonderful first day of jr. high! So cute that Eva was reassuring herself all day that he would be right back. Speaking of Eva, PQ not only has that same shirt, but also wore it today! We were in tune!
The circle journal is a wonderful idea for you and Jessie to share.
When my eldest finished 6th grade - I had Hunter. 6 years is a long time to wait - but we were thrilled. Max and Eva will certainly have a great relationship!
I am happy to hear that Max had a great first day of middle school. He looks so ready in the photo! Father's blessings help "ME" with starting school. I am a major worrier and the blessing seem to ease my woes.
I am loving the journal idea! You guys have a great relationship and I love how creative you both are!
The photo of Max and Eva is adorable, her morning hair is hilarious! (and mirror's mine)
The circle journal is brilliant. How does she find the time? I wish my copying skills were good enough for that one, I love it!
I'm so glad Max had a great first day at Jr. High. It's very smart that they don't have the older kids there for that first day. He looks so grown-up all of the sudden.
It's so cute that Eva wanted a blessing too!
Score on the good mail from Jessie, I want to see this circle journal! What a great idea.
I'm so glad Max's first day was a good one! When I started middle school, they had the seventh graders go a different day than the eighth graders which was a huge relief! And Eva's hair looks hot in the morning :)
Jr.High, now that is big! I think it is great that they start the 7th graders the day before to let them get a feel for things before everyone is there. So nice!
What a fun package from Jessie! I love the circle journal idea! That will definitely be a treasure!
a junior high kid and a 2 year old,I don't know how you do.
Max looks so dang cute in the pictures. My junior high didn't treat us as well as Max's that is so nice to go a day early.
Eva looks darling in that picture with Max.
I got good mail from Jessie too yesterday, what a good day!
What's a circle journal?
Max is so handsome! I love that they go a day early- I hope he loves it and tomorrow both your boys have a great day.
That Eva is one for the books. She is cute and a pill and adores her brothers. What is she going to do? Send her over here!!!
Did you gasp too when you saw the gigantic photo corners? Oh my! I can't believe Jess is already on top the the circle journals- she is moving in and we are here and her priorities are better than ours. Hanging my head in shame...
I'm glad Max can cross "First Day of Seventh Grade" off of his life list. I remember being really nervous. I love the circle journal!
My heart is warm.
All is well.
Mom's a dork. She sounds so cheesy, except I know that she means it :)
I can't believe this day has come. I will pray for Max and put his name on the temple roll next time i go! Remember- he can always kick them in the shins!
+excited for the circle journal to come MY way!*
