1st day of 3rd grade

Today was Lucas's first day of school. I think he was definitely ready after being home yesterday and missing Max so much.

Eva was excited to go to Lucas's school this time. I brought my camera, and we got in the car. When we arrived at the school, I started to get Eva out and Lucas asked where I was planning to take pictures. I said, "I was going to take you to your classroom." Then I saw his face and said, "unless you don't want me to...", to which he immediately responded, "No." Well, alright then.

He condescended to let me take a couple photos on the grass, then proceeded to quickly walk away! I told him he had to at least come back and give me a hug. Then off he went! No tearful goodbyes here.

I think Eva was a bit disappointed that she didn't get to go inside Lucas's school. I suggested we go home and get our "day clothes" on so we could do our errands (such as buying more new jeans for Lucas -- silly me, I had assumed he would wear a size bigger than last year--not so). She perked right up and said, "Errands will make it feel better!". OK!

We braved the mall and were there for almost 3 hours. She was true to her word and did very well sitting in her stroller the whole time, woohoo!

It was strange that Max was home today. I'm looking forward to tomorrow when both boys go to school, and we escape to Jill's house because our new carpet will be installed!!!

Hi Michelle! My Hayden starts 3rd grade in the morning. I was thinking how old that was until I continued reading your blog only to discover you have a son in JR. HIGH! Jr. High is big time stuff - such a crazy time for kids, yet I do remember having a lot of fun in the midst of all the emotion! Best wishes to both your boys for a very happy school year, and to you and Eva too, as you enjoy your time together. I think my Owen and I will need to run errands tomorrow to "make it feel better"!

Before I go - back to YOUR 3rd grader - I had to laugh at the way he quickly took off and didn't want you going to his classroom! I think MY 3rd grader would do the same thing! :)

Michelle, Lucas looks so handsome and resolute as he heads into the school with his bags.

A mall for three hours looking for boys jeans would do me in...I hope you got an ice cream cone or SOMETHING :)

Lucas' haircut is so different, his hair looks straight instead of curly! He looks so much older and more confident, I can't believe he's in 3rd grade!

Eva's comment about errands making it feel better is so cute. She's on to something.

Last year I bought so many clothes for Kat that didn't fit. I was so annoyed when I had to return them all! So glad Eva stayed in her stroller and didn't murmur. That's a total bonus!

Lucas looks adorable, even if he is patronizing you with photos. Too cute that he said no class photos.

Eva sounds like my kind of girl! Shopping will make it all better! Its so sad when our kids grow up and don't want us to do everything with them.

I love that picture of Lucas confidently strolling into school--he's so big!

"My keyboard is working AGAAIIIINNNN!!!" (Sung in a dramatic operatic crecendo with arm flung high in the air.)
Actually it's a new one. But.
'Resolute' is the perfect word for how Lucas looks striding into school. It cracked me up when you told me that he said 'umm where are you going?'. Ha! And damn that kids getting handsome and older looking. I still have to convince Bella sometimes that it's not Max.
You didn't tell me your carpet was going in today! Traitor of miles!

Both your boys just look like little men now- not little boys. Cute Eva- I wish Mya had the frame of mind she does for errands. Can't wait to see the carpet.

So I'm going to become embarrassing to my children when they reach 3rd grade, huh? Isn't that too early? The idea strikes me as sad and, yet mildly amusing. Such "grown up" feelings. Good thing it's one of the ones that tends to fade as they really do grow up.

Eve is a doll! A little bit of retail therapy usually does make it all better. You're doing your job and training her up well!

Goodness, Lucas looks like a little man! Cute haircut and all. And I couldn;'t agree more with Jill than to think that Eva is on to something to comment on errands as a pick-er-upper!

Can't wait to see everyone AND the carpet!

Such great back to school posts! Your boys are so handsome! I love the pic with Lucas striding into school. So sure of himself...ready to go!

Also, congrats on the new carpet! New flooring changes everything, doesn't it?

Running errands can make me feel better, too! Funny, and quite astute, for someone so young to make the observation. Perhaps she inherited her grandmother's shopping genes! I didn't realize that Lucas was in third grade, like Sarah. Her first day was today, as well.

I love the smell of new carpet. I hope you enjoy!

Lucky you that school has started already. I am counting down the days here! Only one week left, finally. I love my kids, but they are getting real tired of seeing each other. Thankfully they are excited to go back and see their friends everyday!
