Max bought the game Risk with the Target gift card he got from my parents for Christmas. I don't think I have ever really played this game before. We all had a game going that started last Sunday and ended on Thursday night, only because I said we had to clean it up for Creative Friday. Otherwise, who knows how long it would have continued! I discovered that I am not very good at this game -- I have a lot to learn from Marc and Max.
Max, Lucas and I made some snowflakes. I started making one of Rebecca's but ran out of time before I could complete it! We had little snippets of paper everywhere...
This is what Max created from the piece I cut off. And to think I would have just thrown it away!
I just love it when we find things we enjoy doing together, and I especially love it when the boys want to make things with paper and scissors!

I have to laugh every time that I see the board game Risk. Now that all but one of us in my family are married we make an effort (those who are in UT) to have Sunday dinner and games together. We decided to learn how to play risk several years ago and eventually my Mom had to ban it from their house because it always got way too competitive (in a bad way). It really is so funny to think about. Since then we have stuck with more mellow games like Settlers of Catan. Though I'm not sure why exactly this game is less competitive for us. I hope you have better luck with Risk in your family! :)
Oh, I long for the day when Kaitlin is old enough to use scissors! Actually this week she sort of got how to hold scissors. I think it's time to go to the store to buy some kid scissors for her!
I love making snowflakes. I like to make them as lacy as possible. I haven't used my really sharp precision scissors, though. I could probably get very lacy with those.
We have the Lord of the Rings version of Risk. We've never played it. I don't think either of us has ever played classic Risk. Is it fun? Did you enjoy even though you weren't very good. I'm terrible at strategy games.
There are three games in the world that I will NOT play- Monopoly, Stratego and Risk. I am terrible at them and I have a terrible time playing them, more so than all the other games I force myself to play. You tell your boys I think you are a GREAT mom for playing it with them!!
I don't think I have ever played Risk before, is it worth learning so that I can have a "fun" game to play with Landon?
Landon went through a major snowflake-making phase last year and actually thought he was going to be able to sell them to people. Randy and I finally disposed of them a few weeks ago when we cleaned the kids' room while they were having a sleepover at my parents' house. Good riddance.
I've never played Risk and I'm not so sure I want to attempt it. I prefer games that you can play in the span of an evening! What fun you guys had with the snowflakes! I haven't cut a snowflake in years, but there is a website out there where you can "cut" your own snowflakes. It's quite addicting!
I haven't attempted snowflakes nor Risk for that matter. For some reason they both intimidate me. Looks like a fun relaxing afternoon. I played the Disney DVD game with Taylor and a friend last week. They got so mad at me because I knew all the answers. Kinda funny because my kids always know the games better and beat me too. :)
I'm impressed you could play Risk for that long too! I would never remember where I was and would have to rely on my kid to tell me. Sad but true.
I can't remember the last time I cut a snowflake. I think my kids would love to do it. Maybe a Sun activity tomorrow since we are home and done with church by 11:30 am. I need something to fill the day, we went crazy last week.
Ah... snowflakes. We can't seem to make enough around here, though yours are decidedly more detailed. I agree, so fun to do a project together! Did you ever finish the big one?
I haven't played Risk in ages!
One of the things I loved immediately about Dave's family is that they are a game-playing family. It was such a change for me, and so much fun! I still cannot play hearts worth anything, but I love sitting around the table with various in-laws and playing! Dave and I used to play each other at Scrabble, but he always wins.
While my son was on his mission in Chile, the missionaries could only play a few games, one being Risk. He would send home these emails telling us the best way to win Risk is to capture Austraila first. I always wondered why he was telling us, because we don't play Risk! Funny boy. When he got home, he would still try and get us to play. It just wasn't happening. I'm impressed that you could keep up the game that long, and that everyone still wanted to play. Usually someone wants to quit after too long of time at our house.
I hate the game Risk, probably because I don't win at it, too much strategy. Have you tried Ticket to Ride, a little easier for me anyway.
I love it when you find things you can do with your kids especially when it's creative. We made snowflakes last year when Bella brought home a book from school about how to make them. My girls were in awe at what was possible with just paper and scissors. It was a lot of fun.
Sarah has been on a snowflake-cutting rampage and has her bedroom door--front and back--covered in the paper creations. It sure makes a mess of little snippets, but she is so joyful in her project that I don't have the heart to complain.
Whoa, Max! Those beautiful hands were all I could admire! They do look like they're getting too big though, slow down! I love you.
I loved Rebecca's snowflakes. Kudos for making them.
I hate Risk. My husband loves it. Solution? Everytime my brother is over they play and that seems to satisfy him.
we used to play risk all the time as a kid, and i asked my youngest brother adam if he had ever played it and was sad to hear him say no! i almost gave it to him for Christmas but figured it would just sit in the box.
it takes patience to play when kids and adults are used to more stimulating and exciting entertainment these days.
i love that game.
