2 Christmas miracles
1. Marc found a Wii today at ShopKo, and they even let him buy it!! He had gone for his daily check at a few stores this morning, and then he saw a FedEx truck coming up the hill from Provo. He wondered if it had just made a delivery at ShopKo and decided to head there to find out. He got there just as they were opening the box and he got one! (Strangely, he also ran into a couple of other guys he keeps seeing on the hunt...)
He called to tell me the good news and I almost couldn't believe it. When I told the boys, Lucas said, "You mean he found one, and they're actually going to let him buy it?!" It was a sad state of affairs, but no longer, because victory is ours!!
2. At the age of 35, I might finally be acquiring some hair styling skills. You should know that I have tried many many times to tame the mane that is my hair. I have more kinds of brushes than you can shake a stick at. I have a whole drawer in my bathroom full of styling products, one section for curly hair, one for straight. I have a flattening iron, and a giant curling iron. I have giant velcro rollers, clips for sectioning, several different diffusers, and a hairdryer with ion technology for decreased frizzies. I even have a hair dryer stand that my dad bought for me a few years ago to try to ease the burden that he passed on to me in the form of way too thick, coarse, curly hair.
Last Friday I went to the salon that Jill goes to (first visit for me). I got a cut and color, and I must say that Sharolyn is a wonder. She "texturized" (read: thinned) my hair with great vigor. She kept trying to keep me from looking down to see how much hair was on the floor. I would say she took out about 1/2 of my hair, thrilling me to no end, because now it seems more like a normal amount of hair for one human to have. She also cut off about 8 inches, so now it seems so much healthier.
Every time I get my hair cut, I pay close attention to the styling and ask tons of questions so I can try to duplicate the look. I have never once been successful, which is why I usually take a picture of my hair on the day it gets done, knowing it will never look like that again.
Well, the tide seems to be changing. Today when I fixed my hair, I was so pleased with the results that I began to wonder if it was possible that I liked it even better than the day it was done in the salon! (I know, it sounds too good to be true.) I felt sassy all day long, and even a little bit cute. I took a picture to document it this evening, and, truth be told, I think I was a little overzealous when I thought it was better than in the salon. Let's not get crazy. But the fact remains that I seem to be getting the hang of this styling thing!
I attribute my new-found success to: a) the massive thinning of the hair cut, and b) hair spray, of all things! I haven't used hair spray since I was in junior high, but now it's my new best friend. The down side to all this is that it takes 35-40 minutes to complete said hair style. The good news is that I can now do it at all.
To sum up, I don't know which of the two events is more miraculous, but right now I'm leaning toward the hair.

Michelle, I am SO excited about your hair (by far the better miracle)! I love when people love their hair and learn to stlye it. It must be some hair dresser sickness I have. I love hairspray too and find myself defending it. Just because I use it doesn't mean I have a helmet head! Sheesh!
I'm happy for the boys too. They should leave you alone for the rest of the break and get their chores done. Totally worth the wait and the money!
I too have big thick hair. A year ago I had mine textured with a razor blade and it changed my life. I felt like a new person with half the amount of hair. (why didn't they figure this out sooner?)It is starting to thicken up again. I am on the hunt here for someone who will do it right. Your hair looks great.
Your hair looks great! I thought so when I saw the picture of you on Christmas but I never got around to telling you. I'm glad you figured out how to style it. My hair is two inches long and I STILL have no clue how to do it!
I see the picture of the wii controller and I just don't get it. How does that thing even work? It looks more like a remote control than a game controller!
This is all so awesome! I was playing on our Wii last night and felt a pang of guilt that we had one and you guys were struggling to find one. A miracle indeed. Your boys are going to live it up the rest of their break from school.
Your hair is fantastic! I love the color- I love that you are so happy with it- I love that you figured out how to style it all on your own! Amazing what a boost looking and feeling cute will do for a person. You so deserve it!
Your hair looks darling. I am not one to use hairspray either, but I have the opposite effect than you. My hair is bone straight and doesn't take an ounce of curl. Maybe I should try volumizing it with some good stiffener.
Woo hoo for the Wii. Even though I am really unfamiliar with it. (is is like a playstation or something). Congrats on two miraclous occasions!
Wow, 2 Christmas miracles in one day!! That's really something. I have to say I think your hair-related Christmas miracle is actually more substantial than the purchase of the Wii because that was bound to happen eventually. But for you to be able to do your hair and actually LIKE it is truly amazing! Perhaps a note to Sharolyn is in order.
Hot dog! Thanks for the new photo, and yes, I LOVE it! I am alittle sceptical of the name Sharolyn.....but it looks like she does good work! Good recommendation, Jill! I'm really glad the boys finally got our gift! But, it looks very alien to me..I'm puzzeled, but happy for all! It looks like you've lost weight, and if this is true, what is your secret for Holiday weight loss??!! Bye for now.
I LOVE your new look! Fabulous! And even better is the fact that you can replicate it yourself--always a confidence booster. I confess that I had absolutely no clue what "Wii" is--I guess I'll have to read on and catch up to figure that out.
Michelle,
Your hair is beautiful. So glad you feel like you conquered it though I still think the curly look at the top is cute, too.
Your scrapbooking skills are amazing. Simply amazing. I'm loving the recipes and box. Thanks again...
On Tuesday the 26th, there were only about 4 full-timers and about as many student employees in the office. We decided to have a Wii tennis and bowling tournament. It was terribly fun and I must say that I was a bit tempted to purchase a system. I don't want it enough to camp out, but it was fun!
Nice hair - can't wait to see it in person.
That is an awesome miracle. I was about to head out and start looking for you. So funny that you are tracking this thing down. I hope you all have fun.
And I love the hair being as I am like you. I have so much hair that she spends 45 minutes just thinning it, it makes a huge difference. That and I love when they razor cut my hair, that really helps.
You look awesome.
Why is it that those of us with straight hair envy curly hair which is much hated by all owners of it? Hair is one of those things I think we can never win with! I love you new cut, but I loved your long curls too!
I'm going to ask you again next week if you still love your hair. Sharolyn has done mine the last two times and I leave ecstatic and then hate it. Not to detract from the miracle- but I'm trying to decide if I should go back and want to know for real. I must say, my problem is never the cut, always the color.
Happy Day of 2 xmas miracles!!
So I decided that I need to know what salon this lady works at and what her prices are...you Jill and Jenn all like her- that is enough endorsement for me and I am in serious need of a good stylist. So cough it up! I want to feel cute and capable of doing my hair as well.
Isn't it amazing what cute hair can do to a woman's psyche??? Have you tried silk & shile by biosilk? I use it everyday!
Tasha
You look oh so beautiful!!!!!
congrats on finding the Wii
hair for sure!!!! and it looks beautiful! i have also rediscovered hair product...turns out it works!
congrats on the wii. what an exciting buy.
Ohhh! Love your pretty new do! Happy about the Wii too :P
I wish I could see your hair in real life. How fabulous to have control of your own hair. I use an embarrassing amount of product each day, including hairspray. I swear every strand of hair has to have something on it to control the frizz but I have fine, thin hair - quite the optical illusion I know.
I love your hair, although I thought it looked great with all the curls too.
Congrats on your Christmas miracle. Thank heavens you found the Wii. (By the way, I had to ask my 14 year old niece what it was).
Hooray for the wii game! I'm glad your boys finally got their game.
I like your hair. Of course I have fine, thin, straight hair that looks blah whether I spend an hour fussing with it or don't even bother to brush it. It's true Jenn, we are always jealous of the other hair type. My sister has thick beautiful hair and I am very envious.
A few years ago I found a style I like, but it breaks so easily I have to get it cut every month for it to look decent. I guess I'd rather have hair than be bald, right?
Congratulations on both things! Finding a Wii is a great thing for the "men" in your life, but finally being able to style your hair in a way the pleases you is a wonderful thing. I can't wait to see it in person!
First of all, YAY for getting a Wii! What luck!! That's so awesome (: We took ours with us to CO, and it was definitely a hit.
Secondly, your hair looks FANTASTIC! I have always thought your hair is beautiful (oh, to have thick, not droopy and thin hair!!), but this new cut and style is very flattering on you! I can't wait to see it in person!
