set a book free

I found this cool website. You take an unwanted book, register it on their site, put a label in it, and then leave it somewhere for someone else to find and read and then pass on. (Apparently I'm really out of it, because I had never heard of it until yesterday, and the term has already been added to the OED!)

bookcrossing
n. the practice of leaving a book in a public place to be picked up and read by others, who then do likewise.

(added to the Concise Oxford English Dictionary in August 2004)

The cool part is that the finder is encouraged to go to the site and start a record of where they found the book, etc. So in theory, you could track where your book ends up! I think I'll give it a try...

I've heard of this, it is really cool! It would be interesting to see where your book would end up!

That is new to me as well. I have so many read books on the shelf I would love to recycle them!

This sounds interesting for sure- never heard of such a thing either. Let us know how it goes!

I've never heard of it either, but it sounds cool. Definitely do it and share how it goes.

I'm out of it too because this is the first I'm hearing about it. Kind of cool.

I've never heard of this either but it sounds like a really good idea.

umm this might make you feel better, I think Kira is giving up her naps. She's only taken one good nap this week and the rest of been less than an hour and today she didn't nap at all. Let me tell you I'm not handling it well at all.

Well funny because I thought I love books and I buy them read them and then place them in my bookcase, so when my dad came over and said, do you have anything to read, I lend him the "girl with the pearl earing" and said I want it back, and he said, why? (he was leaving to mexico) once you read a book you go to the next...was his reply...I guess I am not in that mode! I love my books and the covers and all that goes with it! I guess I am not a serious reader but the books I do have I love to keep!

I've been to that web site before, but of course, I didn't bookmark it, and promptly forgot about it. It looks like so much fun. There are a lot of books floating around Thanksgiving Point which is very close to where I live. I suggested to Jeremy that we should spend one of our date nights hunting for a book in the Dinosaur museum. I'm not sure that he was too keen on the idea. I'll have to bring it up again sometime. Thanks for the reminder!
