the nefarious third step
Jack, our chocolate lab, is neurotic. He recently turned 3, and although he has mellowed a lot, he can still be downright crazy. For reasons unknown to those of us not in the canine world, he decided that the third step that leads up to the back door is scary -- very scary.
I've seen him (through the laundry room window) trying to negotiate that terrifying step. He starts up the stairs, only to stop dead in his tracks, hesitate, and turn around. He'll do that 20 times or so. You can see there's extra wear on the third step from all the tentative pawing that occurs there.
Then, depending on his degree of bravery that day, he'll either make a mad dash for the top, or wait at the bottom, barking. That's when he needs a personal invitation to go up the stairs -- i.e., we open the door and call to him. What a weirdo.

Maybe he's OCD, crazy dog.
Maybe dog phsychology isn't as wacky as it sounds!
Time to call Cesar Chavez... the Dog Whisperer...ROFL! Crazy dog :P
Or maybe he has psychic esp powers of the canine world! j/k. When in doubt give Caesar the dog whisperer a call. For some reason I am always intrigued by his show. Have you seen it?
Never having owned a dog, this kinda makes me want one. Do all dogs have nemises like your third step? Very interesting...
Maybe the step is haunted!
(Sorry, I just spent twenty minutes debating if I could handle this:

I decided that I could not.)
I'll take Jack's quirk over Chief's. Jack's at least will let you sleep at night.
*side note* everytime I read about Jack in your posts, I keep thinking it's my brother you're reffering to. Lol
That is definitely a bizarre canine you have there--Tyrone has a rival!
That is so wierd/interesting. I've never owned a dog either (although my children beg for one everyday). I find it quite hilarious!
I love dogs, what a goofy boy.
Caesar's show just kind of pulls you in, I'm a sucker for it.
I'm with jill...
Have you looked under the step?! Maybe there is an unusually large spider or something a dog might find scary.
This is too funny.
