my favorite weekend

Oh how I love conference weekend. We don't make any plans other than to stay at home all weekend, preferably in our jammies, and watch General Conference on TV. I still liked conference weekend when we had to go and watch it in a church building, but it's infinitely better to be able to sit and watch (in lounge clothes) on the comfort of your own couch... I feel so fortunate that we have this luxury. I'm so glad it comes around every six months -- I always need it -- I can't wait to be spiritually fed!

Yesterday we went to Salt Lake to celebrate our niece Kristen's 9th birthday. First we went to Michelle's Little Gym so Marc could take photos of her employees. The gym didn't have any classes going on, so the kids all had the run of the place. As you can imagine, they all had a blast. Sadly, I left my camera in the car for that portion of the afternoon, and I was too lazy to go down and get it.

Then we all went to Friday's for an early dinner. We go out to eat so rarely that when we do, I always feel a little pang over how excited my kids are. Who am I kidding, I'm excited too.

After dinner we headed to Marc's parents' condo, which overlooks the Conference Center and the SL temple. The kids went swimming while Grandma and Grandpa looked on, and the rest of the grown-ups sat upstairs talking. What could be better than having grandparents around to entertain the kids for awhile? Eva was in heaven because she had her fans around -- she just kept going from one set of arms to another, pointing and directing them to take here wherever she wanted to go. They kept commenting on how good and happy she was being. Well, who wouldn't be, when their every desire is met with immediate gratification?? That's what grandparents are for.

Finally, we had Kristen's cake and she opened her presents. (Don't you just love the swimsuit, wet hair and goggles?) The only thing she really wanted was an iPod. Her parents had told her that she could get one if she saved up to pay for half of it. Obviously, she knew that's what she was getting, but you never would have known from her reaction. "I got an iPod!" with all the joy of being surprised. It was pretty cute. What is the world coming to? 9 year olds with iPods, that's what. Max is getting close to having enough money saved to get himself one.

I hope everyone enjoys my favorite weekend!

Conference weekend is one of the best! Up at school, my friends and I would get together and make breakfast or go out and have lunch (in between saturday sessions) and watch. I too enjoy the blessings of being able to stay at home with a fluffy blanket and sprawl out on the couch. it's strange to think that this is the last time I'll get to do this for the next three or four conference's.

Yes, I LOVE the swimsuit and goggles! Wet, sweaty, sleepy... never picture perfect is just how my kids always look in their b-day pictures. Glad it's most kids!

Did you just love this morning's session! Elder Baxter was so good! The next talk on patience was so needed! Elder Ballard on callings and balance was AMAZING! I loved all the songs... I'm getting ready to put kids to bed and watch the afternoon session we missed by going to the canyon today. I am really looking forward to it! Almost as much as Veronica Mars! :)

I am always amazed at what kids get these days. I remember how great I thought our "Speak and Spell" was.

Since moving to AUS, I can't believe all the kids with cell phones. They ALL have them. Even 9 and 10 yr olds. And it's not cause they're cheaper here, believe me. I guess things just change... I'm getting OLD!

I love the photo with wet hair and goggles.

I am v. jealous that you can watch Conference in your jammies. Not only do we still have to go to the church, but we also get it a week late!

I'm glad you had such a great weekend. Since we were on the road for Conference Weekend this time around (the earlier than usual dates threw me for a loop!) I can't wait until I have a chance to read it! I really needed Conference and I'm sad that I missed it.
