evidence

Just a few photos to show that my mom was here... wherever she goes, beauty follows. She is definitely the style maven of our family. We all look to her to tell us what is cool, happening, trendy, or otherwise something that we need or want. Occasionally her advice goes contrary to our natural impulses, but as Denise says, "I will go, I will do, I will follow what Susan says!" And so I find myself wearing earrings I never would have found on my own, or wanting to paint colors I didn't even realize I liked! (ex.: I have never been a fan of blue, but thanks to Mom, I love all shades of aqua and now want to paint my bedroom that color...)

Mom bought this huge leaf (I believe she called it a monstera, though I don't know if that is spelled correctly) just because it was cool. We had it on my kitchen table all week.

She brought me this drink just before she left for the airport. She got it because it is so cute. (By the way, the drink itself is pink. Yep, it's a cute drink.)

Eva was enthralled with all of Grandma's pretty jewelry. Here she is enjoying wearing some of Grandma's bracelets. I thought she was pretty brave to let Eva have access to them. Fortunately, she didn't break them. She was also very happy to have Grandpa around to hold her on demand!

As usual, our time together went way too fast, and I was left with plenty of regrets -- there are always things I wish we had had more time to do. I spent all of yesterday feeling blue because I just hate it when my parents leave. All I can think about is how much I wish we lived closer together and could see each other whenever we want. It's an obsession.

Mom and Dad taunt us by saying that they want to move here when they retire. First of all, Dad keeps moving his retirement date further into the future. Secondly, Mom loves the East so much, I don't know if she can really leave. But I keep holding on to that hope that someday they will really be near enough to have Sunday dinners together, and much more.

I love that she bought things just because she thought they were cool or cute. How totally sweet is that?

It is so hard living away from my parents too. I'm always depressed when they leave and count down the days to the next visit.

It's so funny to think of you and Denise questioning the things your mom tells you are stylish, because you two have such magnificent style yourselves. I am in the dark ages and feel comfortable here.

Did that pink drink energize you? The can is mighty cute.

I'm sorry you get sad whenever your parents leave. Luckily you've gotten together quite a bit this year, so that's got to be a slight comfort eh? Or perhaps just salt in the wound.

I also have parents that tease me with saying they want to live here. I don't think it will ever happen but I would love it.

I am glad you had a fun time with them. I share at least some of your parents in another state pain.

Cute pink drink!

I am so glad that you had a fun time with your mom.

I can't wait to see the color of blue that you are going to paint your room.

...and a pink drink? Sounds fabulous. I'll have to try it.

We had a great time in Utah. What a short trip! Maybe it is best to not spend too much time so you don't get tired of us! Maybe we should buy a building lot. That would represent some committment to moving to Utah. Something to look forward to.

I love that leaf and the little apples. Everytime I go to your blog, I see something cute!

I miss my family all the time too, and I am fairly close to them.

That can is way cute- I hope it was tasty as well so it was a win/win. I hope that your parents find their dream lot soon so the wheel can start to turn towards then living here.

I never thought my parents would move from California but two years ago they retired, sold the house, built a new house and moved to Pleasant Grove. 2 of the 4 of us live in Ut, unfortunately I'm not one of them. So I love going to UT to visit and see the family but it's never enough time. It's always hard to say goodbye and get on the plane, but in all honesty I haven't lived by my parents in over 20 years, I think in some ways its harder to leave my sister. I love it when they come out here to visit, we always take little side trips and go exploring other places when they come: nauvoo, wisconsin, michigan, indiana, the list goes on...

I would love to meet your mom, she sounds like a breath of fresh air with style and confidence to boost.

It's nice that you have been able to see your parents so much (and it has been a lot!). But I do know how it can make it harder when they leave. You get into the habit. . .

Having a blue room is the best... it is so relaxing, I feel like I'm at a beach house everytime I'm in there! May I suggest a good color? Benjamin Moore "barely teal". I know teal sounds so scary, but it is the most soothing color. I never want my room to be another color!

You gotta love when mom comes to visit. My mom actually drinks that Tab drink. Is it taste good? I have never been a fan of energy drinks. Just wondering.

Our bathroom is a grey/blue and I absolutely love it. Blue is a very calming color as well as cool. At least that is what I have been told.

P.S. Where did you do your personality color test? I have been wanting to try it out myself.

TAB has been around forever, it was one of the first diet colas--I remember it as a girl back in the late 70's early 80's. It was sort of icky then, but then most diet drinks were, and it for sure wasn't pink! (well, the can was, but not the drink itself). I might have to give it another try now that Splenda is on the scene.

I'm glad you had fun with your parents--I'm just jealous I couldn't be there, too. Thank heavens for your mom, or I'm sure I'd be a fashion disaster (though I'm still not too sure about those big belts she was trying to talk us into...).

I never realized I had such clout!! It's good being adored by your daughters, I love it! Miss you and I will give up the east when Dad does. Send photos of that good hair day!

Can I borrow your parents? I really wish I had that type of relationship with mine. And I pray my girls will someday feel that way about me.

TAB...what a blast from the past. My mom used to drink that years ago.
