The boys went back to school today. Normally we all seem ready for school to start, but this year was different somehow. It just doesn't quite feel like summer is over, so it's not seeming real to me yet. Max and Lucas seem to feel the same way. Also, it's freaking me out a bit that this will be Max's last year in elementary school... and the last year Max and Lucas will ever go to the same school together. sniff.
Last night Marc gave them their back to school blessings. I love this tradition. He said so many wonderful things that I know will help them during this school year.
We tried to get them to bed much earlier than the summer norm, but they couldn't get to sleep. Maybe after a few days of getting up earlier for school they'll be tired enough! Lucas laid out all his clothes last night next to his backpack, so maybe he was more excited than I thought.
After we got to the school, I got out of the van and took a few obligatory first day photos. Eva watched from inside the car with interest, but when I kissed the boys goodbye and they walked away, she had a little meltdown! I think she will miss her big brothers quite a bit.
We came home and hung out for awhile, then she was getting really sleepy, so I put her down for a nap. I headed downstairs and did the elliptical (thanks, Jess & Timm!) while watching an episode of the Gilmore Girls (thanks again, Jess & Timm!). She was awake when I came up but I still managed to shower before getting her up. Now I'm getting ready to go do a few errands. I'm not sure how the boys are doing, but I'd say it's a pretty first day of school for me!

Very cute picture of the boys. I'm sure they'll love school and will adjust quickly to a new sleep schedule. I know what you mean about it still feeling like summer. I'm so ready for fall and back-to-school, but it still feels early to be starting school. Why don't they just wait until after Labor Day?
I definitely agree with you on the fact that it doesn't seem like the summer should be over. The start of school sneaked up on our family and I just thought it was because this summer seems to have focused on my leaving for school instead of on the kids going back to regular school, but I guess this feeling is more widespread! Emily's first day is today and the kids' was yesterday. Sarah and John are excited about the start of school and Emily not so much. It'll be nice to have a few days without anyone else home! I love the start of school, but it doesn't seem like it should be here already!
I like the picture of Max and Lucas! Very cute! What grade is Lucas in now?
I know what you mean about it not feeling like summer is over yet. The summer vacation passed so quickly this year! But, now you can get back to your quiet existance of having most of your kids gone to school all day. When I think of that I get goosebumps!
I can't believe Lucas is in his last year of Elementary school! That's crazy! He will go to middle school right--7th, 8th and 9th? How time flies!
At least they seem excited for school. Poor Maren just about hyperventilated. I think a lot of her friends have started highschool while she still has a year of jr high left.
The boys look so cute. I am excited for when my kids are in school. I loved the first day of school when I was in elementary school, I think I just loved the new supplies.
Jessie let my borrow her Gilmore Girls awhile back, I loved having it, it was nice to be able to watch it whenever I wanted, Kira loved it too, she calls it La La, I imagine because of the songs in it.
it was our first day of school today as well. hope they do good and wouldn't they be together in high school or is there too much age diff.?
My worst part of back-to-school is taking and picking up three kids from three different schools! To make matters worse, my car overheats when it's hot and the air conditioner doesn't work so well--it emits a slightly chemical smell, which tends to induce a headache in me. Other than that, happy back to school!
Very cute picture! Glad your day was good and it sounds like you are waisting no time getting in the habit of working out- so cool!
That will be a sad day for me when my two older ones will not be in elementary school together. They do grow up fast.
Isn't it funny how the little ones want to be a part of their big siblings lifes?? Luke had to carry a backpack and wouldn't get in the car without it.
As for Weston he was just a bit lost. Glad you had a good successful day! P.S. My kids still haven't gotten "tired" early enough yet, hope yours do quickly.
It sounds like a great day. One of my reasons for sending James to school "young" was so that there would only be two years between them and they would overlap more. My siblings were just a little bit too far apart (in my opinion) we barely ever got to be in the same school.
I hope the boys had a great day!
Your boys look so old and grown up -- very cute. I hope that they had a good day at school.
It's amazing how much the little ones notice about change. I hope that Eva did OK without them.
For those of you that asked, Lucas is in 2nd grade and Max is in 6th. Max goes to jr. high next year! my word, how did that happen?
Relish the 6th grade with Max and start praying more than ever that he will continue to have good, wholesome friends. Ryan's 6th grade year was his last good year as far as making his actions consistant with his knowledge or right and wrong. He was such a cute boy and well liked and bright. He was just expressing his unhappiness to a friend this weekend and I can't help but think back on the choices he has made since he was Max's age. Alot has changed, and changed the course of his life until he decides to examine his choices and make some changes. It seems that this age (Max's) is such a pivotal time in a young person's life. I will continue to pray for his success and committment to the Savior. I have no doubt that he already feels a committment. He is such a darling young man and as Dad says often, getting quite handsome! I think I will put in for some Christmas requests for some new photos for framing in my walls-a-plenty in the basement. I would be happy with just that! Give Lucas a kiss for me too and I'm sure the year will be off to a huge success. I just got back from Charleston Saturday and we had a very successful and busy trip. I think Dad and I may have to have a little get a way place down there for our old age (winters)! More pictures of Eva, please!!

Okay, sorry! Forsome reason, when I clicked to publish my comments, nothing happened, so I kept clicking, as you can see!!!! I am on a quick lunch break from work and it would take more time for me to figure out how to get rid of the multiple comments than to make this explanation! It shows my ineptness on this silly computer!
