June 24th, part 2
During Max's birthday party, I was able to sneak away and visit Amy H. at the hospital. It was so fun to be able to hold baby Alexander and hear about his birth. Is there anything as miraculous as the birth of a new baby? Not to me. Even though Eva is only one year old, I had already forgotten how impossibly tiny a newborn is. Alexander is beautiful and you'd never know by looking at him that he was a forceps baby, his head is perfect! Kaitlin was adorable as usual, but still keeping her distance from her new little brother. Jeremy claimed he was responsible for ultimately coaxing Alexander from the womb by playing a little AC/DC, to which Amy predictably rolled her eyes. Amy looked so great and said this birth and recovery were much better than with Kaitlin. She seemed to have so much energy. Congratulations to all the Hanks family -- I'm so happy for you!

I remember you told me once that your friend Katrina gives her mom a gift on HER birthday as a way of thanking her for giving birth to her. I think giving birth is an amazing experience even when all goes well, so the fact that it is so difficult to get babies out safely just makes it even more remarkable. I think this is something that goes largely unacknowledged in our society. Every labor and delivery story is unique, and they become our war stories or something but rarely get shared except among friends. That's a little sad.
Cute photos of Alexander, that's wonderful that you were able to go visit Amy in the hospital the day before your trip.
So cute! If I could have a permanent 0-3 month baby I would! I love them tiny!!!
thanks for sharing those phots
Sounds like a great day- fun to hold a new baby while celebrating your "baby".
Those pictures are precious. What a great camera view of them. Its sad to see how fast they grow up. I sometimes wish you could freeze those moments in life.
I love the feet photo.
I call my mom every year at 6:30 in the morning and thank her for having me. I never tire of seeing babies brought into this world, it truely is a miracle that babies are born and that so many are born healthy. What an enormous gift we as women are given, a burden at times but a gift none the less.
Cute photos. I just love tiny feet. I think its awesome you were able to go see Amy.
