First of all, for those of you who asked, a little resolution to my spider adventure. After watching the spider for a few minutes, I did put a clear glass over it, and we did further examination from outside the glass. The picture that was in my post was one I found online; the ones I took with my camera didn't turn out very well (remember how I was reluctant to get close enough to fully utilize the super macro mode?).
Yesterday morning we went to see the spider and she was dead. Our hypothesis that it was a female wolf spider with spiderlings all over her back was confirmed, as there were dozens of dead baby spiders all around her and her body was no longer bumpy. At this point, Max decided that she was no longer such a fascinating specimen, and we vacuumed up all the little spider carcasses. End of spider adventure. Hopefully no more to follow!
It was fun to go have lunch with Pam, Jill, and Amie on Monday. I know I met Pam at Jill's wedding, but I have no memory of it really. Plus, I had no context for Pam then. Now I so enjoy reading her comments on everyone's blogs that I just had to meet her, again. She did not disappoint. The only downside of the day was that when I got home that afternoon, I was so tired as to be entirely useless. Is that what a trip out to Eagle Mountain does to you? Sheesh.
Amie and her kids brought their new kitten, Snowball. I just love this photo of beautiful Whitney holding the kitten so gently. (unlike Eva, who picked him up by the scruff of his neck...) Where in the world did Whitney's come by that incredible bronze skin?
While driving out to Eagle Mountain, this field caught my eye. I love when the hay has been baled and you see these green rectangles spread out all over. It is beautiful to me. I stopped on the way home on the side of the road and just put the window down and took some shots from the driver's seat. I'm taking a page out of Jill's book -- trying to have my camera with me more often and just shoot things from my everyday life. It's nothing like Jill's photography for sure, but it makes me happy.
We did a few more fireworks on Monday night for Pioneer Day. We mostly had sparklers and a few little things left over from the 4th, but the boys didn't even seem to notice, they were still so excited. I had bought some California Sparklers, which apparently just turn different colors and smoke a whole lot. I'm so glad my boys are easy to please.
On Tuesday, the boys helped me all day long to get ready for Marc's return and my parents' arrival. They only had two short breaks, but other than that they worked. I have never worked them that hard, and I was so proud of their willingness to help. They cleaned their room, including under the bed (ew), picked up all the toys in the basement, gathered all the clippings from my pruning in the front yard, helped me clean the bathrooms, and washed the windows. We were going to wash the cars, but we ran out of time!
Max, Lucas, and I were doing some yardwork and I turned the hose on to flood certain areas of our poor, very dry lawn. Eva made the discovery of her life when she picked up the hose. She kept looking at us as if she could not believe her good fortune. Even though she would inadvertently douse herself right in the face, she just looked a little surprised and kept at it. After a few minutes, she was so soaked she looked like she had fallen into a pool.
Look at this darling package I got from Katie! A cute handmade card, a beautiful book, peanut butter m&ms, Riesens, and what is possibly the cutest bookmark in the world. (It combines ribbon and photos and you use it with a book -- come on! That's three passions in one!) I just can't get over getting good mail from people I have never actually met. Katie, you totally made my day, thank you!
Marc finally got back from his trip to Paris on Tuesday night. Everyone was so excited to see him. Eva has been reluctant to let him out of her sight ever since his return. He brought the boys his traditional gift of darling pajamas, as well as some t-shirts, bracelets, and French Pokemon cards. He brought Eva several outfits (what girl doesn't want clothes from Paris?) that I am excited for her to wear. He brought me some chocolate and..... a new fragrance called Un Jardin Sur le Nil by Hermes. (That translates to A Garden on the Nile.) Here's what it says on the box: A perfume of life and light, sparkling and generous, where the scents of green mango, lotus flowers and aromatic rushes mingle with incense and sycamore wood. Pretty cool, eh?
We went to our last pack meeting as a family last night. (Well, at least until next year when Lucas becomes a Cub Scout. Lucky devils. I have to keep going without them.) Max received his Arrow of Light award. This is him being simultaneously proud of his accomplishment and a little embarrassed at all the attention.
Today I taught my piano lessons and then watched Bella while Jessie went to Salt Lake for her interview with Imaginisce. That's pretty much all I've done this week. I hope to be more regular with blogging now!

I'm happy to hear that it was not your actual spider, but a photograph. I was a little freaked out at how close you got.
I'm glad you were able to get the house together and clean for Marc's return and your parents. I always feel better in a clean house. YOu would think this would make me do it more often.
I was wondering what fabulous perfume Marc would find in his travels. The question is: did it come in a decanter. He seemed very intent on getting one in a fancy bottle. Glad he made it home safely. Did he see the Tour?
I love when hay is baled. Although- I have never seen it in the green stage. It's always been brown. It looks like Amie lives in some kind of heaven.
So- how did you overcome your beige fear of meeting another blogger?
that picture of hay bales brings back memories from last summer. i worked on a member of ward's ranch and mainly just helped clean up the land and get their square baler working. then when it did work i got to help bale and it was really fun except for the millions of tiny pieces of hay and dirt getting in your eye. it didn't pay hardly anything and i worked for like 12 to 14 hours a day but it was fun and i didn't care how much it paid i just wanted to do something instead of being bored all summer like i was this year.
fresh cut hay smells really good!
I'm so glad you did a comprehensive recap with so many pictures. I have been feeling banished from your blog because I would NOT scroll down to the spider picture, I almost saw it a couple times when I was jumping around to blogs and went to click on one of the links that are further down on the page, but would always panic and catch myself. Phew. I'm glad that situation was resolved.
All the pictures you posted are great. My mom and dad got two kittens this week to be outside cats and now all Whitney wants to do is go out there everyday! Oh no, they're trying to lure us to Eagle Mountain...I must resist.
I love the thought of the boys helping you clean all day. It's so nice when you don't have to do it all yourself, and I think it empowers them and makes them feel more invested in their home.
Wow--what a crazy week! I'm sure glad the spider issue was resolved because that was quite a horrifying story. I love those really productive days when you accomplish a lot of cleaning and the effects are visible (plus having two little boys to help you out and do the dirty work is fantastic!) It's also great that Marc is home--I love it when our whole family is home!
Great pictures! The one of the field looked so peaceful...oh I wish!
Glad the spider issues is done...seriously your story got to me. Last night there was a spider on our steps and all I could think about was that if I scared it, a 100 little spiders would jump of it!!
The perfume sounds wonderful...and little girl clothes from Paris...how fabulous.
"That's all you did" it sure seemed like a lot to me. I enjoy that you summarized the whole week. Sometimes I am torn between catching up and moving on.
great to catch up. i feel like i have no time to post these days let alone read the posts.
i love the photo of eva holding the hose. it still freaks me out a bit that sally jane is not walking (not like medically freak out, just freak out that she seems so young still a bitty baby you might say) So i think that is why i love that photo so much is because eva is still so young doing a big girl thing.
glad marc is back.
Michelle, do they make one of those plaques for each scout who earns the arrow of light. What a great reward for all of his hard work (and yours of course). Congrats to both of you.
I sure that your glad Marc is home and how nice to have a visit from your parents. I love when friends and family come to visit and all the prehubub that it entails.
How is the new perfume? I'm sure he did a great job.
I love a freshly baled field also, my mom used to drive swathers (the machine that cuts the hay into rows) and we would drive by fields and she would comment on what a good job or a sloppy job they had done. She cracks me up. I now see how nice it would be to have a digital camera, especially for blogging.
Thanks for making the trip out to EM, it was so good to see you and get to know you better in person. You rock!
Well, I for one am glad you didn't blog every day last week because now I don't feel so behind. Two things have kept me from checking the blogs as often as I would like: 1)I'm sewing like a maniac (for pay) and 2)the computer is in the sunroom--which still has no blinds--and that, combined with no cooling system on a 100 degree day makes for a room that is FAR too hot to be in!
SOOOoo glad the spider issue is resolved--that really sicked me out.
LOVE the picture of Eva with the garden hose--too cute!
Oh--and I keep meaning to mention to you how wonderfully surprised and delighted I was with the second good mail package! Thank you for the scrapbook special edition magazines. Reading them gives me a large measure of satisfaction, even though I'm not currently scrapping very much. Thanks to the Cathy Z. book, I'm completely revamping my notion of how I want to scrapbook--it's liberating! You are just too darn thoughtful and sweet--thanks!
I too love the picture of the bales of hay (brings back memories - including hauling hay - those are not the best memories). Now that I have a "travel" camera, I always have it at hand.
Love the picture of Eva and the hose!
