walking

Eva and I have been doing some walking lately. We started about three weeks ago. As soon as I drove the boys to school I would put her in the stroller and we would head out. Our walks usually last about 45 minutes. It was great for a couple of weeks until Eva got sick and then we had a hiatus. Today was our first day back.

I really don't know why I've waited so long to do this -- we have a track right at the end of our street and I have a nice stroller. It must be inertia. In any case, I've been enjoying it. One day towards the end of school we even happened upon a walk-a-thon for the elementary school nearby (not the one my kids go to anymore). It was so fun! They had a d.j. out at the track cranking some lively music and all the kids were out walking laps. Some kids were walking their dogs, and at one end of the track they had a balloon arch for everyone to walk under. For Eva it was a toss-up between which was more exciting, the dogs or the balloons.

Today we took Jack with us since Marc is not around to give him his daily exercise. We have not been able to train him to heel for anything, so he was constantly walking right in front of the stroller or trying to pull me to the side. It was rather nightmarish and I don't know whether I'll be doing that again.

It sure does feel good to get moving again. I just love the tingly feeling in my legs that lets me know I've got my circulation going. I'm sure my body appreciates it. Now I think maybe I should get a pedometer. (Amie, do you think it will work for me?) After the first week of walking, my weight stayed the same. After the second, I lost a pound. But after last week (no walking) I gained. Bummer. I can't say that I'm surprised, since I think I ate about 2-3 days' worth of points when Marc and I went out for our early anniversary Mexican feast. I'm gonna get back on track now and keep up the walking. I hope that very soon I can start riding the bike that my dad got me (what would I do without my benefactors?), but more on that later.

I love walking!! I have a track nearby too, but I have to go between 6 and 7am (before Kelly leaves) or take five kids (who fight on the small playground). Needless to say, I'm at home on the couch!

We try to go to the gym after work which is about the only time I can fit it in. It is not only good for me, I also feel like I can process and decompress after a stressful day at work.

I too love walking and absolutely hate running. I really don't think that my body enjoys it or something. Keep up the good work!!

I haven't been walking since I got since either, and I'm fearing for camp. I'm planning to go tomorrow and hopefully do some last minute attempts before I'm forced to hike in front of others. That track by your house is great, so if you figure out the best set up for you and Eva I think you've got a good thing going.

Charlotte and Emily have been walking with me early in the morning before it gets too hot (around 6:30a.m.). We have a route mapped out in the neighborhood with a few good/hellish hills. I appreciate their support in walking with me. It's so much easier to do when you know someone else is getting up early and matching your effort.

Good for you for walking with Eva. I have not mastered the pedometer yet but I like the idea. I like that on the streets you can measure with your car and have a route.

Jenn which track to you go to? I need a good place even if I had to come to Lehi.
