weaned
My baby has weaned herself. I know, I know, I said she wasn't a baby anymore. And I guess she is a toddler, but I still wasn't quite ready for her to wean, especially since she's my last baby (sorry, Mom). I love nursing. I love the convenience of always having food on hand for my baby wherever we go, always at the right temperature. I love the way nursing comforts a baby in so many ways. I love the way it acts as a soporific, and heaven knows I'll take anything that will help make my babies sleepy! I love the way a baby will give you loving pats while she nurses. Most of all, I love the sound of a baby suckling -- that greedy, happy gulping. sigh. It's all over.
And, who am I kidding? Here's the painful reality: now that I'm not nursing anymore, I have to take away that 10 extra WeightWatcher points that were added to my daily range. Ouch. I haven't quite gotten around to doing that yet, and I'm sure that's largely responsible for my extreme weight loss difficulties of late (see my next post).
I guess I should look on the bright side. My body is now all my own. If all goes as planned, I won't be sharing it with any more babies, inside or out. Maybe I can finally take responsibility for it and take better care of it now.
By the way, these photos have nothing to do with weaning. I just wanted to post some recent photos of Eva. The first ones are from Sunday, when she wore a new dress that her Grandma Mim sent. I thought it was very cute when we received it, but when I put it on her, it became even cuter. It has a full circle skirt and a crinoline underneath, so she looked like the tiniest belle of the ball. The other one is from today. She and Jack were looking out the window together. Marc got her dressed this morning and put on a dress that he bought her in Paris last summer. It's Tuesday, and we stayed home all day, but she's wearing a linen dress with silk ribbon embroidery. (It makes us kind of giddy to see our tiny girl toddling around in a dress.)

All I can say is "ouch" those pictures of her in that dress from Mim are so painfully cute it physically hurts me.
Also, Landon would like me to add that "you never know if it's your last baby, if it happens it happens."
As for the weaning, I just remember being relieved when it was over, but I also liked it for the same reasons you do, but I distinctly remember wanting to have my body back to myself.
Landon is a crack-up! WHat does he know that we don't? I agree with Jill- I am in pain, that dress is so sickenly cute. Grrr.. I'm all riled up.
I guess my baby really is still a baby since she still happily nurses whenever I offer her (about 3or 4 times a day) and she still shows no interest in walking.) I suppose it would be fairly difficult with crawl with a crinoline...
I love the picture of her and Jack-I'm glad you finally got it. Bella never looks out our windows as the blinds are never open since our view is a parking lot. Sad.
Focus on how great it is that your body is solely your own, and you never have to give it up to another baby. That sounds joyous in many ways! (wean yourself off of the extra 10 points...)
OK, seriously. What does Landon know that I don't? He scares me sometimes. He's still kinda fresh from heaven!
Darling, Darling, Darling! Gosh I love this post...since I am still feeding Jorvik...he has no sight of ending it either...he just got 4 top teeth in the last 3 weeks...weird they all came at once...but I guess I will continue to nurse as long as he will do it...I won't go past 1 year...he is already an acrobat...I can't really nurse him still (so I have to be home) he is like a pup and moves EVERYWHERE and wants to nurse at the same time (Imposible). Love the dress and can't believe she shares a birthday with me! wow that is cool!
Oh my heck- you deserve this little girl! My three girls can hardly get a dress on for church let alone to roll around with the dog! SO cute!!!
And I cried for about four days when I quit nursing. It was such a tender, wonderful part of my relationship with my babies! But, it is really nice to not have to dress for nursing! :)
Ah nursing. The big debate for me right now. "Weaning" for me happened when K was 6 weeks old. We just never caught on, and once her doctor assured me that I would not be a terrible mother for not nursing, I quit! Now I face the dilemma all over again. From the brief experience I had with it, when things were going well, I loved it. There is such a bond between you and your child. It's amazing! I think in this case congratulations and condolences are in order. For all the obvious reasons.
Eva looks just so darn cute in her new dress! She is such a doll! I'm sad that I never get the chance to see her. I think the lst time was months and months ago--she was still a baby!
what a beautiful baby! I LOVE the picture with her and Jack.
I know how you feel (about the nursing thing) I just weaned my baby (which is our last #4) about 5 weeks ago and was soo sad. Not only for the one on one but the extra calories as well. I think I gained 5lbs right off the bat.
Your little girl is darling by the way. And just out of curosity did you take a personality test for the beige thing? If so where did you find it?
Oh my word- she is a doll. I too love the picture of her and Jack. How completely perfect. Lulu would NEVER stand that close to a dog without screaming (sigh). Where did her grandma find the dress?
So I was one of those non-nursers. The idea of nursing was actually bad w/my meds, so my superstar sister had a baby at the same time and had enough milk for both her little one and my bebe and she would ship it to me on a regluar basis (that's my sister Katie- the saint). I was always kind of relieved, because I thought it sounded like a nightmare, but after reading your post- I love how you describe it. Always the right temperature, food when your baby needed it.. much better than the painful stories.
Your are Nice. And so is your site! Maybe you need some more pictures. Will return in the near future.

I too love the sight and sounds of nursing, my own or someone elses! I like that comment from Landon too! I'll just hold out for that! The photos, oh so cute, cute, cute!
