OK, I don't exactly feel like doing a jig. This is just what I always tell my kids when we get home, so it seemed appropriate. I am back from my trip to Denver. It was wonderful. The only bad part was having to say goodbye to my wonderful family that I don't get to see often enough. Jessie and I were lamenting together in the airport: why can't we do this every month or so? Better yet, why can't we get everyone to move to Utah so we can see each other every day if we want to? For as long as I can remember, we have all been enjoying the fantasy of all living together in one big compound. It's how we imagine the Celestial Kingdom to be -- that alone is reason enough for me to want to get there!
I want to write more about my trip, but I'm too tired tonight, so I'll just tell about what's happened since I got home this afternoon:
-- I arrived home to find the house looking amazingly clean: clutter picked up, kitchen cleaned, floors mopped, even the fridge cleaned out! What a treat. (Sadly, since I got home, my stuff is everywhere and it doesn't look so nice anymore. I'll have to get busy tomorrow so Marc doesn't feel like it was all for naught...)
-- Eva managed to stay awake on the ride home from the airport, which meant that she and I both got to take a nap after we got home!
-- I had my Bear den meeting tonight. It wasn't that bad, although I am finding it difficult to keep these 9 year old boys on task long enough to get anything done. Their attention span is pretty short. Also, two of them are cousins and native Japanese speakers. Whenever they get bored or distracted, they start speaking to each other in Japanese and it is very difficult to get them back to what we are talking about!
-- Lucas informed me that when Eva and I left, he ran around the house singing "Let's get this party started!" I really have no response to that.
-- Since I got my new digital camera (Canon PowerShot S3 IS), Marc gave his old 2 MP one that I had been using to the boys to share. They cannot believe their good fortune. Max got a little pocket camera a couple of years ago, but Lucas has never even used a camera. Now they have digital technology and are taking photos with wild abandon. So far their subjects include: Eva, Jack, the fort they made out of their bunk beds, screen shots of Jimmy Neutron on TV, Pokemon cards, and each other posing with a blanket draped around them (your guess is as good as mine). And all this just since last night, when Marc gave them a little tutorial on using the camera! Lucas got quite upset tonight when Max was getting some shots and filled up the memory card. Apparently he had been planning to do a little shooting himself before bed and was wroth to discover that he would have to wait until tomorrow to download the photos. Good grief.
-- I started to unpack, but then decided that I needed to catch up on blogs more than I needed to put my things away.
-- Max and Lucas came out after I thought they were already in bed wearing only underwear. Not even undershirts, just underwear. When I questioned that, they claimed to be too hot even for undershirts. We turned the AC on today! Interesting. What else has been going on in the few days that I was away from home?
Well, that's about it. Oh, I also watched American Idol from last night, but I still don't know what the results are from tonight. I guess it is good to be home, if only to be getting back to my usual routines. More next time.

Welcome back, jiggity-jig. I've been wondering when you got home and what the state of affairs would be. I'm so happy that it clean and shiny for you (way to go Marc). Don't fret about the clutter resulting from unpacking, don't let it boss you around. Dump everything out of your suitcases and put them away immediately, then deal with the laundry and the putting things away. I think the annoyance of having the suitcases out becomes more taxing than all the rest (my personal theory) so getting that done should get the ball rolling.
I'm disillusioned that your 10 year old and 6 year old sons have digital camera technology but I don't. Wah.
I'm so happy that you and Eva both got naps upon returning home, that had to have been a gift from above.
Japanese speaking cub scouts eh? Maybe you should speak French when they do that, I'm sure it would get their attention. Here's a little something you could say. "Paul, Jean, vous regardez le tele vous deux?" Or, "Vite Pierre, ton dejeuner es pret! Ou son mes chausettes?" (Overlook the spelling sil vous plait.)
So glad you are home safe and that you had a good trip! Such funny things- I love Lucas singing! Your kids crack me up!
I love Jill's idea. You could also forbid them from speaking in other languages while they are with you... mean, but effective. I once had to forbid Adam, his friend Chad and Chad's wife Alla from speaking Russian while I was with them. I hate it when people speak other languages- how are we supposed to listen in on their conversation?
Welcome back. I am glad that your house isn't in total disrepair.
Welcome home! I'm glad that your trip passed without incident. Or at least I think it did, or we would have heard about it right?
I would love it if your parents moved to Utah--as long as your Mom promises up a store here!
I'm with Jill. Put the suitcases away. Why have I never thought of that? I hate it when the suitcases are out too long. It is really annoying.
Finally, I think you need to come up with an equally smartalec-y thing to say when Lucas tells you that he sings "Let's Get this Party Started" after you leave. Pretty funny, though, that he would tell you about that! Such innocence!
I was so jealous that you and Jessie got to go to Denver - I haven't been since Christmas. I grew up there, and ask Jessie sometime - I know basically all of your family there. Love them! However, my husband and I did get to "catsit" for Jessie and Timm, which is always a treat ;)
I love finding all of these new blogging friends!
So glad to see you back online. I've missed my daily stops at your blog :)
Lucas cracks me up! I'd like to have more details about what kind of partying went on while you were gone. Alas, I too am jealous that your sons have digital technology for photo taking. (I'm also just DYING that we didn't get a four-generation photo while you were here--how stupid!!!)
I'm glad that you're home. I never thought of giving my old digital camera to the kids. What a novel idea!
Don't you love husbands who realize that the best way to show that they love you is to clean the house? Excellent!
That is so nice you came home to a clean house!
Lucas' song made me laugh! My kids will do the pose with your fist and say "Yessssss!" when they find out I am leaving and Jimmy whispers "wait until she's out the door." Nice.
That was very nice of you to go back and read all of my very WORDY posts. I always enjoy your comments and am also looking more forward to Seven Peaks. (that sounds very positive considering what I will be wearing!)
