calling of doom

I forgot to mention the bad part about yesterday. I got a new calling -- the one I have been dreading for years now and hoping would pass on by: cub scout den leader! Everything about it is bad. (And I don't think that's just me being pessimistic, either!) I have less than zero interests in cub scouts. I don't anything about what I'm doing. They usually meet in the afternoons, right when Eva takes her long nap. I have to work with a woman in my ward that I just can't seem to drum up any good feelings for. (I worked with her in another calling and never scratched the surface. Marc says maybe it's my karma to keep working with her until I can learn to like her...) I can't skip out on any of the boring pack meetings. I have to go to the round tables. And, perhaps worst of all, Jill reminded me that I will have to get a cub scout UNIFORM and wear it to all the activities!!! I don't care what the rules say, I am NOT tucking in my shirt!

The bishopric member who called me even mentioned that there is a rather high turnover in this calling because it is one that tends to wear people out. Sheesh. I have had a lot of different callings in my life, and I would take any one of them back again if I could just not have this one. Wish me luck.

Even the scout logo looks out of place on your blog. I'm sure you'll do a great job and the kids will love you, but I know that's no comfort when you have this looming over you. I'm so sorry for getting a bit of a laugh out of the thought of you having to do chants and cheers at the scout meetings while wearing your foxy shirt. You'll have to hark back to your days, perhaps you might even want to try a hurkey!

I'm so sorry. I am dreading my turn also. Jimmy and I were Weeblos leaders when we first got married. That was enough for me. It wasn't that bad, it just wasn't good and I am sure that I didn't do a great job with it either. BUT there was no uniform involved. As for working with the lady you don't love, give in quickly, I have let the stubborness get me a couple of times until I realized they weren't going away until I learned MY lesson. Good luck, we'll be thinking of you (with a slight smirk at the thought of it all)!

AUGH! One of my callings is currently the Cub Master (gotta love that title). I've been doing it for almost two years now, even though John hasn't been in Cubs for almost a year. I felt the same way when I was called, and I'll have to say it hasn't been SSOoo bad. However, as the Cub Master, I only have to worry about the monthly Pack Meeting, which is sort of like planning a birthday party for 18 boys every month. I love the Den Leaders I work with, so that makes a big difference, too. Furthermore, I no longer have a napping child to plan around.

If it's any encouragement, NONE of us wear uniforms unless you count the times we dress up in costume as part of the theme (i.e., cowboy roundup, medical ER, etc.). The uniform would be a deal breaker for me for sure.

I agree with Jill that the Scout logo looks rather out of context on your blog! That made me laugh. Good luck! I'll get your name on the Denver Temple prayer role.

Oh no- I had no idea there was a uniform involved. That is definately a deal breaker for me, and I fully support you in not tucking. No one can make me tuck, and you don't have to either. Listen to Denise- if she doesn't have to wear a uniform, you don't either!

Oh, my, the one calling that's worse than nursery! At least in nursery you get to hear all of the funnny things the little kids say. All you get in scouts is to hang out with a bunch of smelly preadolescent boys--in a very unflattering outfit! That being said, I know you can do a great job at it! You're so creative that I'm sure you'll make it into something you'll enjoy. And, don't feel bad if you end up dreading it every week (like I did going to nursery). Somehow that all manages to turn around and you'll end up feeling great buy the end of your meetings. Good luck. I am full of sympathy for you right now!

seriously.. nothing is worse than nursery. Our ward has put a 6 month limitation on nursery callings. They thought if they didn't there would be a mass exodus from all the couples that fear NURSERY. I cried when they called me. I have problems- wait.. did I read you have to wear a uniform... uggghh.. alright it could be worse--. I'm sure you will do fabulous. What is the old saying- there are never bad callings. Good Luck!

you crack me up. I am hoping that with three girls this calling may pass me by, but you never know. Of course isn't achievement days as bad? I am sure I will be doing that one a lot.
