page 14 for {21} challenge
Yay! I worked on my art journal two days in a row! (I actually even started another page tonight, but I need to take a photo for it.) I tried painting and leaving a little space for journaling, inspired by the Tara Whitney album I had a link to awhile back. It was fun, it hardly took any time at all, and I got to use some American Craft letter stickers! I really love those.
some random things from the last couple of days:
-- Eva and I went to the mall today. I never go to the mall because it just seems like a form of torture. All those stores are taunting me, showing me cool things that I have no money to buy. I did actually have some money today and coupons to use, and scored some clothes for me and for Max. (for those of you with children, The Children's Place is having a sale where everything that has been marked down is an additional 50% off -- I got Max a great short-sleeved Sunday sweater for $10 and matching linen pants for $7! They also have a bunch of their 2-piece pajamas on sale for $5.) This was probably the longest Eva has ever just sat in her stroller and she handled it pretty well. It seems like a good deal to me, you know? I'll just sit here and lounge while you push me everywhere...
-- The trampoline is such a draw. We have had friends over to play at our house every day since we set it up. My kids used to prefer going to their friends' houses to play! On Sunday when the boys couldn't jump, they took their Pokemon cards out there and set up a museum. For 2 hours! They go out and jump as soon as they wake up sometimes. And tonight, I read Lucas's bedtime stories out there -- while he was jumping! Afterwards, I jumped with him. (my first time since we got it) It was totally fun. I forgot how much fun that can be. Added bonuses: the lilacs are now blooming and I could smell them while we were out there; I discovered a bunch of pretty tulips hiding in several spots in our otherwise hideous backyard; we saw the sun set. I told him we absolutely had to go in to brush teeth and go to bed (after multiple stalling delays) and he was still jumping! When I started to get on his case, he said "But Mom! I can't help it! It's just too fun!" Yeah. This was a good investment.
-- One of Eva's top teeth FINALLY broke through yesterday. Good grief. Her gums have been bulging for almost two months. Today she was munching on cucumber sticks and looking mighty pleased with herself.
-- Last night we went to a patriotic program that the boys' school put on at Orem High. They thought it was way cool to be performing at the high school! There were some really cute parts: the mic was too high for the kindergartners, so they were all craning their necks to try to talk into it. Lucas danced the Virginia Reel! I had no idea he could square dance. He was part of the head couple who forms the arch and then casts off. Too funny. There were multiple technical difficulties during the third grade section, so they ended up singing a cappella. It was awesome, because there was no booming music to drown them out and you could actually hear their voices. It was surprisingly touching to hear them singing We Shall Overcome and another song about Rosa Parks and civil rights. They were all wearing black&white to symbolize segregation and they were holding up protest signs. Max's class did a German dance and the boys had to wear outfits that simulated lederhosen. It was pretty cute. His group got a little off at one point and I could see him laughing so hard and just having fun. The only thing that could have made the program better would have been to shorten it a bit -- 2 hours!!
-- Not only is Marc finished with teaching for the semester, but he turned in his grades today!! I can't believe it. He still has work to do, of course, but now we may actually see him on the weekends at least. I was reading on Amy H.'s blog about Jeremy getting a new car. She said he really deserves it, he's been working so hard. I don't disagree, but it made me feel so sad for Marc. The poor guy has been driving the same car since before we met. We have been married now for almost 15 years! He turned 40 in November and it was a real blow to him to still be driving the old Civic that's falling apart. I have to say, he definitely deserves a new car. He works so hard, and has for so many years. It's just sad that they don't compensate him like they should. I hope we can work out a way to get him a new car this year.
-- In other news, I use way too many exclamation points. I realize this, and yet I seem powerless to stop. Help.
Tonight I am feeling back to my normal self. Laundry is going, the dishwasher is loaded, I actually put on makeup today and made dinner. It feels good to be back.

MIchelle, life sounds good right now. I'm so glad for you!
I love it when you relate experiences with your kids. I don't know what it is about it, you just have such a loving way of talking about them, and thought I don't know them very well, your kids seem so smart, insightful and funny--in only the way kids can be!
Congrats on your clothing deals! Noting makes me euphorically happy like finding good deals on clothes for Kaitlin. Clothes for me is a different story--I never buy clothes for me! And also congrats to Eva for sitting so well in her stroller and for her teeth breaking through. Teething for Kaitlin was always really easy (I didn't know she was teething until her tooth actually broke through. She never complained!), but it's been difficult for my sister's little boy. He got flu like symptoms every time a tooth was trying to come in. No fun!
Don't worry about your use of exclamation marks--they just show your enthusiasm for your subjects. And it's not like we're writing scholarly essays or anything. Here all of the rules go out the door! I use entirely too many parenthesis, and it drives me crazy. But I'm a tangential thinker and I have to insert my thoughts about things, even if those thoughts occur midsentence.
I agree completely with Amy (in the use of parenthesis) and exclamation marks! I use them both oo much, but it really shows the way that I express myself, so I continue. You should too. I'm glad you're feeling like your back- you were missed. I'm going to come over soon and try out the tramp as well. It's been a long time. I too am rooting for Marc getting a new car soon- no one sould have to be driving that Civic for so long! It's almost 20 years old! (ahh! exclamation marks...)
Yippee! You are back! I love this post and hearing little details of your life and how you describe them. You truely make being a mom seem so real and are very good at sharing the ups and downs. I love it. And the exclamation marks are great, how else are we supposed to share your enthusiasm?
I'm so glad you're back with all your exclamation points and life details, it's been a drab week without your blogs. I think punctuation and blogging gets a little tricky since we can't emphasize things with our voices. I never use exclamation points in my normal writing, but find I use them often in the blogs so apparently it's a new form of writing and we just have to do it.
I want to go to Children's Place and buy clothes, but am considering returning toilet paper and a novel to Costco to fun the trip (how sad is that!)? Talk about funky punctuations.
I wish Marc could have a nice, new car too--it's ridiculous how complicated life gets and how difficult it is just to get things that seem so easy and basic for everyone else.
P.S. I love the art journal page!
Do you guys get a newspaper? I get the weekend SL Tribune. It has the Parade Magazine in it. Last week's feature article was about the best jobs in America. One of the top, I think, 10 jobs was college professor. They said that the median income was $80,000! I was shocked. When will BYU wake up and start paying? I fear the answer is never--but consider the blessings you receive for Marc teaching God's children. (Hope you can sense the sarcasm!) I wish Marc could have a nice new car too--he is a very hard worker. And he probably wouldn't stay out until 3:00 AM showing it off to his friends. Yes.
I love your page, the simplicity and bold color... I hope you do another page today!
So happy to read your update too, I think I'm going to buy a trampoline this weekend :)
Don't flog yourself over the overuse of exclamation points...who cares! (As witnesses, so do I.....)
