hands
I took this picture of Jill's hands a couple of days ago. I was flipping through some scrapbook magazines and saw two layouts about a mother's hands and all the different tasks they accomplish. I've just sort of been musing about my hands and how much I appreciate them. They may have dry skin, and I don't take care of my nails and cuticles as I should -- they are not beautiful, but my hands allow me to do so many things that I enjoy. I can type, take pictures, prepare food, drive, play the piano, write, create cards, books and other projects, clean, twirl my hair, garden, put on makeup, wrap gifts, organize, comfort my children, pick up things, sew, and I'm sure many many other things that I can't think of right now -- all because of my hands. I have a splinter in one of my fingers right now, and even that tiny reduction in my ability to use my hands is an annoyance. I should probably start taking better care of them!
(While I'm feeling grateful, I should also pause to appreciate my eyesight. My grandma has slowly been losing hers, and it is so sad to see her lose the ability to do so many of the things she enjoys.) What do you appreciate most about your hands?

Isn't it funny how a small injury like a splinter of a paper cut on your finger or hands makes you realize how much you take said fingers or hands for granted? I'm grateful for all of the things my hands enable me to do. Thanks for the great post!
I enjoy watching other use their hands. I like hands and it is something I notice on pretty much everyone. I have a mental list of "good hands." Thanks for helping me remember all that they do for me.
Whoa, how weird to click over to your blog and see my camera and my hands. I like that picture though, which is surprising considering how much I usually loathe myself. It's also funny that I'm wearing "my uniform" in that picture eh?
I know what you mean though about appreciating your hands. I have often lamented (to myself) that my hands aren't prettier or softer, but then I immediately correct myself because I'm thankful they work and will do all the things I want them to do.
I like my Dad's hands. Just seeing them gives me comfort and strength.
I love that they are washable! After working in the yard or house or wherever, I love seeing them all dirty and then being able to add a little soap and water- then just like that, clean hands again.
I'm a fan of the opposable thumbs-sets us apart from the primates, ya know? Hands truly are amazing.
I remember a few times that I have talked in Church about hands - specifically that we are the hands on this earth, serving in place of our Savior. I have always appreciated that concept.
My fingers split a lot and KILL so neosporin and band-aids have become my very dear friends!
i love my sewing hands. when ever i sew i feel like my hands take different shape. they are so flexible with fabric. i know that sound so silly but it is amazing what i have taught my hands to do with the sewing machine.
i also love typing.
