clutter-free
That's my goal. I'm not sure why I let things get so cluttered. I don't enjoy clutter. In fact, I feel oppressed by it. Overwhelmed. Marc and I have been cleaning today to get ready for tomorrow's gathering for Easter dinner at our home. This is how my kitchen table looks when it's been cleared from all the papers and projects that usually cover it. I love it when it's like this! (especially since Mom sent me these cute apples as a belated birthday gift) My kitchen counter, normally covered with numerous piles of papers and miscellaneous stuff, is clear. Now it's a peaceful place for my eyes to rest. So why is it SO difficult to keep it this way??

Because there is never a place for everything! There are always loose ends that get stashed away for a day or two and then resurface without a real home! At least- that's my problem!
and because you have a family- as you know, I am possibly the first picker-upper in Olympic training, and I just pick up a little every day. I also make sure that I don't get something unless I know exactly where it will go. If there isn't a place for it, I get rid of something else so there is. Beautiful picture!
Because we always think we're going to "get to it" in a minute, but that minute turns into a month. I've been really good about sorting and shredding junk mail immediately (ever since the organizing class I went to) and it has made a huge difference.
Another theory may be that we love the difference of the sight of our spaces going from chaos to clutter-free. I'm not sure, but there must be some pay off for letting it build up otherwise we wouldn't let it happen over and over.
I'd like to see more photos of your cleaned up space. Your kitchen counter always looks gigantic when it's all cleaned up.
what this is your house????? it looks like a magazine. michelle you amaze me with your style.
Kristi, if you're amazed by this photo then you've got to check out her smugmug gallery with all the closeups of the stuff on her walls. It's not to be believed.
"A clean house is the sign of a life misspent!"
That's my excuse;) When I have to clean extensively I often think of Sis. Hinckley's phrase: "Was this what I was born to do?!!" There's just so many more important things to be done and you are productive in doing them.
LOve, love the apples! Your table looks so artistic! I would never have thought about that.
As for clutter--it's the never ending battle that we all have to deal with. I'm impressed with Jessie's plan of attack! If only I took the time! Maybe I can implement that in my craft room. I find that I alway shave one place that attracts clutter, no matter where I live. In this house it's the half wall between the kitchen and family room. I just can't keep that thing clear of magazines and mail. Maybe if I had some cute baskets. . . . . . .
I blame the kids. My kitchen table is a homework work-space, and in my new house, the kitchen table is the first thing you see when you step in the back door. Its a clutter catcher to be sure.
Is that a new table? I love it!
If you find the secret please share! I battle the clutter big time. And it is mostly me. I always think I am in a hurry and don't have time to replace what I just shuffled through to find what I needed. (I know...it is much easier to do it as you go...in theory!) I am good about the junk mail and do notice a difference when I keep up on that.
Your house looks VERY cool and I would love to see in person sometime!
LOVE the photo!! I get great plesure from simplifying every now and then! (My collections don't lend themselves very often to this simple style, but I love it for a change! Mostly, I can do this in my store--not at home. The apples look cool, and the chairs too!
When I first looked at the picture, I thought that it was a magazine photo and you were hoping it could look something like that. Not that I think you are messy (LOL).
I love the clutter-free look as well.
i love a clutter free home, though i am not so good at it myself. your house looks fabulous.
