leavin' on a jet plane

Once again, time has done a number on me, and suddenly this is the last day before my trip. Jessie, Bella, Eva and I leave bright and early tomorrow morning to fly to Philadelphia to visit with our parents for a week and help our mom unpack her newly-finished basement. I have a seemingly impossible amount of things to get done today. I am also somewhat nervous about flying with Eva. The last time I did it she was only 4 1/2 months old and it was a piece of cake. Now she is 10 months old, endlessly mobile, not content to just sit in my lap, much more attached to sleeping in her crib (as opposed to on a plane or wherever we happen to be), and the equipment that I have to bring along for her seems to have increased exponentially.

It's a little hard to imagine how we will contain these constantly exploring babies at my parents' house. More than any other house I've ever seen, there is a wealth of intriguing, fragile objects for them to grab, climb on, pull down, etc. Mom said maybe we could build a corral of boxes to keep them inside! I'm hoping that they will be happy to have each other to play with and that that will be a mitigating factor for the frustration they are likely to experience (what with their pesky moms telling them they can't have all those tantalizing things of Grandma's...). Not surprisingly, Eva hasn't been sleeping very well lately, and I have no idea how she will do in the portable crib in an unfamiliar place. I hope she will adapt alright so I can at least get some sleep! Mostly I hope the babies will be content so that we can really devote ourselves to helping Mom get her stuff unpacked and feeling settled at last. Hopefully the blogging will continue unabated while we are gone!

p.s. this is a photo of Mom's library to give you an idea of what we're up against...

I love that picture! I loved that room when I got to see it in person, and the picture is stunning as well. I don't envy the wrangling you and Jessie will have to do on the plane or at her house, but the rest of the trip is enviable for sure!

I totally sympathize with you Michelle! It was always stressful when I would travel with my babies. People on planes are not very forgiving either. I can't take away the stress, but I did finally realize that I could minimize it by telling myself I was prepared and there was nothing to stress about until it actually happened. What you imagine is SO much worse than reality sometimes. Good luck with your travels and let me know if I can help you get ready or help your family while you are gone!

Hey, my pediatrician told me that there is nothing wrong with giving a little dose of nightitme cold medicine (Benadryl, I think he said more specifically) when long air travel is on the itinerary. Just a thought.

I'm all for drugs! Charlotte (now 18) is Valedictorian of her senior class and had many-a-dose of travel medicine as a child. I think you're safe!

P.S: VERY envious of you and Jessie getting to unpack your Mom's basement--it will be like Christmas all over again! Also envious of whoever gets to sleep in the aqua room downstairs.
