fragrance
(sorry, I can't seem to get a decent image of this!)
This is a perfume that Marc picked out and bought for me for our anniversary during our last stay in Paris. It's called Alchimie (alchemy). On a perfume site, it lists the notes as being: citrus, grapefruit, jasmine, sandalwood, and vanilla bean. I quite liked it, and was impressed that he could pick it out for me, because choosing a new fragrance is difficult even when you're doing it for yourself! I don't think I would trust myself to pick one for him...
Anyway, when I came home, Jessie smelled it and said it smelled like a cleaning product. Hmmm... Maybe if I was Jill, I would want to wear a fragrance that smelled like a cleaning product. (That is, if I was Jill and I didn't have a super-sensitive nose and could therefore tolerate wearing perfume at all.) As you might imagine, this kind of ruined this perfume for me, because now whenever I put it on, I'm wondering if it really does smell like a cleaning product.
The first time we lived in Paris, Max and I would go to Sephora all the time and just smell things. Anything and everything. After an exhaustive search, I finally settled on Angel, whose notes are: chocolate, caramel, honey, vanilla, and pineapple. (Can you tell that I like perfumes that smell like yummy food??) It was pretty new then, and I was excited to come home with a new scent that you couldn't yet get in America. Imagine my surprise when I went to a party and someone said, "Oh yum, are you wearing Angel?" (She had seen it in the Bahamas.)
I'm not sure why I've got perfume on the brain. Maybe because I read somewhere that a child said, "Mom smells like a meeting!" when she was wearing perfume. So I'm wondering, what's your take on fragrance?

I like the idea of perfume, having a signature scent, intoxicating a man with it, and all that other fiction-induced nonsense. But really I hate it because most of the time it gives me a headache. I know it's an annoying quirk to have, but I really and truly have it, so perfume can be an act of aggression against me. I've sat in a movie before and had to move because someone was bathed in Eternity. One time my mom put a drop of Escape on and it made me actually nauseous. It's something I struggle a bit with, but overall I can appreciate the romantic notion of it.
great post michelle.
every christmas jeff gives me a new scent. he always picks it and i always love it. so strange that way.
this year i got Ralph Lauren Turquoise. I love it.
what i love about wearing perfume is even when i am leaving the house in my pj's, have not showered, or brushed my hair (this is most days for me) i spritz on a little smellie and wala, i am a superstar!
I have yet to find one that really works for me. I have a couple that I like but I don't wear them very often. Really, my favorite is my pineapple spray from Bath and Body Works. It was discontinued so I use it sparingly but I love the fruity, fresh scent. Boy does Angel sound like a good one!!
I love having a scent. I wore the same thing for 10 years until it was discontinued. I have stuggled more in past years finding "my scent." Currently I am wearing Dolce & Gabana's Woman.
A friend's mom used to tell us that is how we pick our mate is by their scent (I know this isn't perfume/cologne but somethings seem to really match your natural body chemistry). I totally believe this. I once dated a guy that I kept trying hard to like but I couldn't stand the way he smelled (not bad, just him)! I LOVE Jimmy's smell, I like to sleep with his pillow and don't like to wash my hands after I cut his hair (although I do, but I love being able to get a whiff whenever I feel like it). He wears Drakar and it still takes my breath a little when he opens the bathroom door and the smell emerges first. (I have had other people tell me that Drakar reminds them of the Black guys in high school, I think it just matches Jimmy's natural scent).
Anyway, rambling.... the point is I want a nice clean (not cleaning product) scent that was...just me. I am always on the search for that....
I used to get a headache and nauseated when I came in contact with perfume from the time I was little. I could barely stand to walk by Bath and Body Works let alone step foot in that store. Then about 3 months ago I decided it was all in my head and that I wanted to find one that I could stand, and I actually found 4. They are all Victoria's Secret brand. My favorite one is called Pink. They are all light fragrances, and I found that if I spray it on in the morning, it usually dampens a little and I get little wiffs of it throughout the day. Very enjoyable. I just wish I could remember to spray it on every day.
okay, I don't even remotely remember this! I suppose you would probably remember better than I, but still.. I don't like being blamed for this one. I need to take another sniff. I stole Angel from you and loved it passionatley for a few years before I just got sick of it. It's no rich that I just got sick of it, and it's a lot more common. I don't have a scent a love and I miss that. Partly I just haven't taken the initiative to look for one because I can't afford it. I also have wondered if it would offend little Bella's nose while nursing etc, but she's old enough to fend for herself now! I wish I had a scent to call my own ;)
I love perfume! fragances! anything that smells good! I love fragance in the bathtub! I just think it is so girlish! I wish I had more perfumes, recently I am wearing vera wang and it is almost empty! I love perfume bottles too! they are so ingenious wish they weren't so expensive!
I've been wearing Clinique Aromatic Elixir for more than ten years now--and I still love it! My perfume calms me and makes me feel good. My kids like it, too. Mark never comments, however, so I don't know if he has just put up with it for all these years or if he doesn't notice, or if he actually likes it. The important thing is that I like it.
WHAT?!?!?! Jess, you got sick of Angel? I'm shocked beyond belief. That is YOUR scent even if you stole it from Michelle. Oh my gosh, I'm freaking out.
I think I finally found mine after owning almost everyone out there. I curently love Dolce and Gabbana's Light Blue. Love it. People always think I'm wearing Sensi..which is also one of my favs.
Now I want to go out and find all of the mentioned scents! We should have a smelling party and save us all a lot of money!
I would love a "scent" other than what comes naturally;), but, alas, Jeremy could never stand it! He's like Jill--very sensitive nose. Although I think his might be wrose. He can't even walk by Bath & Body Works (on the opposite side of the mall hallway) without developing an instant headache! Woe is me.
I can walk by Bath & Body, and I can even go in without getting a headache. I just can't put their scented lotion on my hands or I'd be in trouble. See, I'm not such a freak.
I love my perfume Quelques Fleurs by Houbigant. I don't even know how to describe the scent. One of the reasons that I like it is that it is so uncommon that if anyone smells it after they have smelled it on me they associate the smell with me. I'm a little selfish that way.
