I was just getting ready to go to bed -- I put in a load of laundry, set the dishwasher to run in 3 hours, picked up the baby toys scattered all over the family room. I had the news (channel 5) on in the background. They just had a story about the fact that church members in Utah are fatter and less fit than non-members in Utah. I thought that was rather interesting, and stayed in the room for a moment to find out what they attributed this discrepancy to. Are you ready for this? Funeral potatoes! Obviously, I couldn't go to bed without passing on this breaking news to all you blog readers out there! Apparently, LDS Utahns eat a lot of funeral potatoes and this particular recipe is just loaded with fat and calories. (I ate funeral potatoes at girls' camp a couple of years ago, but I can tell you that funeral potatoes is not what has made me overweight. More like too many cookies and M&Ms.) Oh, and just now, they had a story about the SLC Olympics and mentioned the stamp with green jell-o on it! Only in Utah...
p.s. can you believe I found an image that combines the funeral potatoes and the Olympics aspects of my post?! Oh the glory.

I honestly cannot believe you found a funeral potato/Olympic pin image for this post--it was meant to be. I know the funeral potatoes aren't what made me fat, but I can also tell you they're really good.
I'm so glad to know those reporters are being paid the big bucks to tell us that funeral potatoes are making us fat. (Great graphic by the way!) I think I've only had funeral potatoes once in my life. I don't even know what they are. Are they like scalloped potatoes?
We watched that too...I did think the part about every event we have revolving around food rang true! Jimmy is pretty excited to have one more thing to be lectured on!

I can NOT believe you found that pin! And why on earth would they decide funeral potatoes were the one thing that led to us being fat? I guess fat it is because who can turn down potatoes with cheese? Not me!
Naw! If that is really true than why haven't I been to a funeral in like 2 year? I personally don't make the stuff. It is tasty but too much effort.
The only thing more stupid than the visual if the name "funeral potatoes", definitly a mystery mormon dinner.....
